How to Pray Through Journaling

July 20, 2020 By Andrew Hudson 3 Comments

Have you ever thought about prayer? What do you think about prayer?

“Am I doing this right? Am I just supposed to ask God questions? Or ask for things I want? Or to help me through a difficult situation?” These are all thoughts I’ve had as I’ve begun to pray.

There are so many different aspects of prayer that can be confusing or abstract, so many of us just don’t do it. In the latest eBook of the series, Chandler Vannoy approaches our next how-to guide with How To Pray Through Journaling. This is a way that he has seen significant growth in his spiritual journey, and he is sharing the process with you!

Prayer doesn’t have to be lengthy or ceremonial, it doesn’t have to be polished or eloquent, and it doesn’t have to be formal or in a particular place or time. What God calls us to is consistency. What God desires from us is communication, and journaling and meditating on prayer allows you to look back and see the consistency that God offers us!

In this eBook, Vannoy writes, “Prayer is not about asking for things from God. Instead, prayer is about God transforming who we are by changing our very hearts. It is about seeking God and encountering Him. But we will only desire to seek God when He has changed our hearts. A sign of a true Christian is that we run to God for Him alone, not the things that He can give us.”

What we know of Jesus in the Gospels is that He often prioritized prayer over other activities. He knew the importance of prayer and we ought to follow that example. Prayer is more than a wishlist we deliver to God; it is a heartfelt line of communication with the Creator. He wants to know your innermost thoughts and would love to be a part of your daily interactions. Won’t you commit to a life of more intimate prayer?
