Preschool: We Can Worship God: Session 2—Joash and the People Gave Offerings (February 13)

1s & 2s— Discover a Picture

Bible Story: Joash and the People Gave Offerings 2 Chronicles 24:1-14
Life Point: People at church give money and other offerings to help people learn about God.
Weekly Verse: Bring an offering and worship God. 1 Chronicles 16:29

Materials: Teaching Picture 11, gallon-sized ziplock bag, paint, wide packing tape

• Put a small amount of paint in the ziplock bag. Push out all the air as you seal the bag. Lay the Teaching Picture on a low table or the floor. Place the bag of paint on top of the picture and tape it to the top to the table or the floor.
• Invite a preschooler to push the paint in the bag. Preschoolers may enjoy making designs with their fingers.
• When the picture is revealed point to the picture and talk about the Bible story. Say: “You found a picture of our Bible story. People gave their offerings to help fix the church.”

3–Pre-K— Make Coin Prints

Materials: Teaching Picture 11, variety of coins, bowls or baskets, play dough, play dough tools (optional)

• Put the coins into bowls or baskets. Display the Teaching Picture with the other materials.
• As children play with the play dough, tell the Bible story. Show the Teaching Picture and point out the money people are putting into the large box.
• Invite kids to use the coins to make prints in the play dough. Comment that people can give money to help people learn about God. Thank God for His love and the opportunity to give to help people.

Kindergarten— Decorate an Offering Envelope

Weekly Verse: Bring an offering and worship God. 1 Chronicles 16:29

Materials: Teaching Picture 11, envelopes, markers, stickers, gel pens, crayons, index card

• Print My Offering on one index card. Display the card and the Teaching Picture where kids can see them with the other art materials.
• Point to the people in the Teaching Picture and talk about what they are doing—giving money to help fix the temple. Tell kids they can give money to church, too. Talk about ways your church uses money to help people learn about God.
• Give each child an envelope. Invite kids to copy My Offering on the front of the envelopes. Then kids can use the various materials to decorate their envelope. Encourage kids to bring their envelopes back with money to give to the church.
• Comment that people can give money to God because God always helps us.
