Preschool: The Amazing Power of Jesus: Session 4–Jesus Walked on Water (September 22)

August 19, 2019 By William Summey 1 Comment

1s & 2s—Use Toy Microphones

Bible Story: Jesus Walked on Water Matthew 14:22-33
Life Point: Jesus can do things I cannot do.
Weekly Verse: The people on the boat worshiped Jesus, God’s Son. Matthew 14:33
Materials: Teaching Picture 4, toy microphones

  • Place the microphones near the Teaching Picture.
  • As preschoolers show interest in the microphones, pick up one and use it to say the Weekly Verse.
  • Offer the microphone to a preschooler. Talk about the Bible story as the children play. Point to the Teaching Picture and comment that Peter called to Jesus so he could also walk on the water. Say the Life Point.

3–Pre-K—Match Letter Shapes

Bible Story: Jesus Walked on Water Matthew 14:22-33
Life Point: Jesus can do things I cannot do.
Weekly Verse: The people on the boat worshiped Jesus, God’s Son. Matthew 14:33
Materials: Teaching Picture 4, magnetic letters, paper, fine-tip marker, magnet board or cookie sheet

  • Trace the letters J, E, S, U, S and W, A, L, K on paper. Lay the paper on the magnet board. You may want to tape the paper to the board to keep it in place. (Other options: Arrange the letters on a piece of paper and take a photograph. Print the photograph to tape to the magnet board. Or place the letters facedown on a copier and make a photocopy to tape to the magnet board.)
  • Invite a child to match the magnetic letters to their outlines on the magnet board.
  • Read the words and talk about the Bible story. Show the Teaching Picture and point to Jesus. Comment that Jesus can do things that people cannot do.

Kindergarten—Play a Verse Game

Bible Story: Jesus Walked on Water Matthew 14:22-33
Life Point: Jesus can do things I cannot do.
Weekly Verse: The people on the boat worshiped Jesus, God’s Son. Matthew 14:33
Materials: Teaching Picture 4, index cards, marker, wooden blocks, tape

  • Print each word of the Weekly Verse on cards, one word and the reference per card. Make two sets of words. Tape each word to a block. Lay the blocks facedown on the floor. Display the Teaching Picture nearby.
  • Guide a child to turn over blocks, two at a time, to find the matching words. When a match is found, set aside the words, If a match is not found, turn the words facedown again.
  • When all the words are found, separate them into two sets. Help the children put the words in order.
  • Say the verse together. Comment that Jesus can do things we cannot do; He wanted to help Peter walk on the water, too.
  • Mix the words facedown to play the game again.
