1s & 2s— Drive Vehicles on Tape Roads
Bible Story: People Prayed for Peter Acts 12:5-19
Life Point: People can pray for others.
Weekly Verse: Pray for one another. James 5:16
Materials: Teaching Picture 12, colorful masking tape, sturdy toy vehicles
- Before the session, use the masking tape to make a few roads on the floor. Place the vehicles nearby. Lay the Teaching Picture at one end of one of the roads.
- Invite preschoolers to drive on the roads. When a child reached the Teaching Picture, pick it up and point to the people. Comment that people were praying for Peter, who was in trouble; God heard the prayers and helped Peter. Tell preschoolers that people can talk to God and ask God to help the people.
- Say a brief prayer of thanks to God as children continue to play.
3–Pre-K— Match Letters to Words

Weekly Verse: Pray for one another. James 5:16

- Print the following words in individual index cards: PETER, PRAY, HELP, CHURCH. Place the letters for these words in a basket or bag. Display the Teaching Picture.
- Tell the Bible story as children arrive in the center. Show the Teaching Picture and remind children that Peter needed help, so his church friends prayed for him.
- Read each of the words on the cards. Talk about each word and how it relates to the Bible story. Prompt a child to choose a letter from the bag or basket and match it to one of the words. Continue until all the letters are matched.
- Say the Weekly Verse together. Say that people can pray for others.
Kindergarten— Step Out the Verses
Bible Story: People Prayed for Peter Acts 12:5-19
Life Point: People can pray for others.
Weekly Verse: Pray for one another. James 5:16
Materials: Teaching Picture 12, white paper, marker, Giant Game Floor Mat® or tape
- Print the words and reference of the Unit Verse and the Weekly Verse onto paper, on word per page. Place the pages in the pockets of the floor mat (or securely tape the papers to the floor). Put one verse on each end of the mat, randomly inserting the words and reference. Display the Teaching Picture.
- Invite kids to step out the verses. Say the Unit Verse: “Go and tell others about Jesus. Mark 16:15.” Then say each word individually, waiting for a child to step on that word. Encourage kids to say the words with you. Follow the same procedure with the Weekly Verse.
- After several kids have a chance to step out the verses, sit with kids and show the Teaching Picture. Comment that Peter needed help and his church friends were praying for him. Ask if they can guess what kind of trouble Peter had. Briefly tell the Bible story.
- Say that we can pray and ask God to help people. Ask kids to name someone they know who needs help. Say a prayer for each person.
