1s & 2s— Pretend to Cook
Bible Story: Ruth and Boaz Ruth 1–4
Life Point: Family members love and help one another.
Weekly Verse: Show love to one another. Romans 12:10
Materials: Teaching Picture 11, toy pots and pans, kitchen center
- Display the Teaching Picture near the kitchen.
- Invite the preschoolers to pretend to cook .
- Point to the Teaching Picture and talk about the Bible story.
- Comment that Ruth loved and helped her family.
- Social Distancing Tip: Limit the number of children in the kitchen center. Disinfect the toys and center before different children play in the center.
3–Pre-K—Find Shoes
Bible Story: Ruth and Boaz Ruth 1–4
Life Point: Family members love and help one another.
Weekly Verse: Show love to one another. Romans 12:10
Materials: several pairs of shoes of different sizes and styles, adult through baby
- Take one of each pair of shoes and place them around the room in out of the way places. Pile the other shoes on the floor.
- Invite a few boys and girls to play a game. Sit around the pile of shoes and tell the Bible story. Comment that Ruth helped her family.
- Tell each child to choose a shoe from the pile and go and find its mate somewhere in the room. When all children have returned to the group, talk about which members of a family might wear each pair of shoes. Say the Weekly Verse together.
- Encourage the children to hide the shoes for other children to find.
- Social Distancing Tip: Disinfect the shoes before the session. As children sit around the shoes, space them a few feet apart. Disinfect the shoes before playing the game again.
Kindergarten—Make Door Knob Reminders
Bible Story: Ruth and Boaz Ruth 1–4
Life Point: Family members love and help one another.
Weekly Verse: Show love to one another. Romans 12:10
Materials: construction paper cut into door hanger shapes, labels printed with the Weekly Verse, small shapes cut from construction paper, glue sticks
- Give each child a door hanger shape and a Bible verse label. Comment that she can hang it on the door knob to her room to remind her that families help each other.
- Tell the Bible story as children glue shapes on their reminders. Remark that Ruth helped her family. Ask them to name way they help their families.
- Look at the verse label and say the Weekly Verse together. Thank God for families that help one another.
- Social Distancing Tip: Limit this activity to two kids at a time. Provide a new glue stick for each child.
