Preschool: Jesus Was Born: Session 2—Angels Visited Mary and Joseph (December 10)

1s & 2s— Lace Christmas Cards

Bible Story: Angels Visited Mary and Joseph Luke 1:26-38; Matthew 1:18-24
Life Point: God planned for Jesus to be part of a family.
Weekly Verse: You will give birth to a son and name Him Jesus. Luke 1:31

Materials: Teaching Picture 2, nativity Christmas cards, hole punch, shoe strings

  • Cut off the fronts of several Christmas cards. Punch holes around the outside edges of each card. Tie one end of a shoestring in one hole of each card.
  • Invite preschoolers to lace the cards. Point to the picture on the card as a preschooler laces. Tell the Bible story and show the teaching picture, pointing to Mary and Jesus.
  • Say the Weekly Verse. Remind boys and girls that God planned for Jesus to be part of a family, Mary and Joseph.

3–Pre-K— Draw Family Pictures

Materials: Teaching Picture 2, paper, markers

  • Guide kids to draw a family portrait with the paper and markers.
  • Show the teaching picture and tell the Bible story as children draw. Comment that God planned for Jesus to be part of a family. Lead children to talk about their families.
  • Offer to print the Weekly Verse onto each child’s paper.

Kindergarten— Make Bible Verse Books

Bible Story: Angels Visited Mary and Joseph Luke 1:26-38; Matthew 1:18-24

Weekly Verse: You will give birth to a son and name Him Jesus. Luke 1:31

Materials: : Bible, strips of paper, white paper, construction paper, markers, stapler with staples

  • Print each of the five Weekly Bible Verses on a strip of paper. Mark each of the Weekly Verses in the Bible using the paper strip printed with the verse. Cut the white and construction paper in half.
  • Give each child 5 half-sheets of paper. Help him find each verse in the Bible and copy it onto a page. 
  • Encourage kids to decorate their pages by drawing.
  • Each child can choose construction paper for a cover and then staple the pages together to make a book.
  • Tell the Bible story as the kids work. Thank God for His plan to send Jesus.
