1s & 2s—Use Whisper Tubes
Bible Story: Jesus Prayed in a Garden Mark 14:32-40; Luke 22:39-46
Life Point: People can pray as Jesus did.
Weekly Verse: When we pray, God hears us. 1 John 5:14
Materials: Teaching Picture 6, small cardboard tubes, clear contact plastic
- Cover several cardboard tubes with the plastic.
- Show the Teaching Picture and talk about the story with a child. Use the tube to whisper the Weekly Verse in the child’s ear.
- Let preschoolers take turns whispering in your ear or a friend’s ear. Encourage them to say “God hears us,” or “Jesus loves you.”
- Social Distancing Tip: Share the story and whisper to one child at a time. As children play with the tubes, disinfect the tubes after each use.
3–Pre-K—Sponge Paint of People Shapes

Weekly Verse: When we pray, God hears us. 1 John 5:14
Materials: Teaching Picture 6, large people shapes, paint in shallow pans, painting smocks, sponges, spring clothespins, safety pins, marker
- Put a safety pin on one flat side of each sponge. Clip a clothespin onto to the safety pin. Cover the art table with newspaper. Display the Teaching Picture. Print the Weekly Verse on the people shape.
- Give each child a person shape. Show him how to dip the sponge in the paint and press it onto his shape.
- Talk about the Bible story as children paint. Point to the Teaching Picture and comment that Jesus prayed for His disciples. Tell the children that God hears people talk to Him when we pray. Pray and thank God for hearing us.
- Social Distancing Tip: Limit this activity to one child at a time. Encourage each child to wash his hands before and after painting.
Kindergarten— Match Life Point and Weekly Verse Words

Materials: Teaching Picture 6, index cards (2 colors), pen
- Before the session, print on the cards the Life Point and Weekly Verse, one word per card. Use a different color for the Life Point and verse. Make two sets of each. Arrange each set of cards facedown on a table. Display the Teaching Picture.
- Invite children to work together or alone to find the matching words in each set of cards. Talk about the Bible story as the children find the matches.
- Point to the Teaching Picture and comment that Jesus was praying because He knew that He would soon die on the cross.
- After all the matches are found, help the children put the Life Point in order. Say it together. Then put the Weekly Verse in order and say it together.
- Social Distancing Tip: Laminate the cards or cover them with clear contact plastic. Disinfect the cards after each use.
