Grades 1-3
Introductory Activity—Make the Longest List
Materials: Paper, pencils, timer
Create two teams of kids and set a timer for five minutes. Give each team a paper and pencil. Tell the kids to work in their teams to make a list of all the ways people can give to or serve at church. If kids need help writing, assign a volunteer to write down the things they think of. The goal is to have the longest list of ways people can serve at church. Have kids share their lists after the time is up. Tell them that today, they’ll be learning that the church gives offerings to support the work of God.

Game—Domino Verse
Materials: Dominos, label maker
Use a label maker to print each word of the Weekly Verse. Attach each label to one domino. Create multiple sets depending on the size of your group. Before playing the game, say the Weekly Verse together several times. Give each team a set of mixed up dominoes. Tell them that when you say “Go,” they should work together to put the verse in order. When a team completes the task, tell them to raise their hands and say “Finished.” Everyone stops while you check their work. After one team has finished, allow the other team to complete the task. Say the verse together.
Tip: If dominos are not available, use small blocks or boxes.
Craft—Draw Yourself Serving
Materials: Paper, markers, colored pencils, and crayons
Hand out paper and coloring utensils to kids. Encourage them to spend some time drawing a picture of themselves serving in some way. Remind them that today they learned how the church brings offerings, giving back a portion of what God gives to them. Giving offerings is an act of worship. However, there are other ways to give and support God’s work in the church, too, including the giving of time and talents. Help them become excited to soon make the pictures they draw something they do in real life.
Grades 4-6
Introductory Activity—Breakfast Scramble
Materials: Cereal boxes, scissors, black permanent marker
Before the session, cut the front off of three to four cereal boxes. Cut the fronts into ten even pieces. On the back of those pieces, write the Life Point: The church gives offerings to support the work of God. Keep each cereal box together. Create teams of kids and give each team a cereal box. When you say, “Go,” each team will try to put the front of the cereal box together. After all the fronts are put together, tell kids that their next job is to determine the Life Point of the day. When you say, “Go,” the second time, kids should turn their box over and try to determine the order of the Life Point. When each group has the Life Point in order, say it together.
