Grades 1-3
Introductory Activity – Creation Sketches
Materials: paper, pencils
Hand out a piece of paper and a pencil to each child. Instruct them to place their paper sideways on the table and draw a line across the middle of the page. Next, have them draw two vertical lines so they have six equal size boxes. Tell your children you will read from the Bible what God created each day and then give them two minutes to draw what God created that day. Afterward, allow some children to share their drawings with the class. Write the Life Point on the board and have everyone say it together.
Live It Out
Game – Creation Review
Materials: buzzer
Form your children into two teams. Put each team on one side of the room and place a buzzer in the middle. Tell the teams that you will either name the day or list what was created on a day, and they will compete to give the corresponding information first. (For example, if you say “Day 1,” the first team to hit the buzzer and say “God created light” will get the point. Or, if you say “God created animals and people,” the first team to hit the buzzer and say “Day 6” will get the point.) The team with the most points at the end of the activity is the winner!
Craft – I’m Unique!
Materials: paper plates, markers, washable paint
At the beginning of class, give each child a paper plate. Instruct them to write their names on the tops of the plates. Next, have each child stamp their handprint onto the paper plate using the paint. While waiting for the paint to dry, ask each child what makes them a unique creation of God. Once the paint is dry, instruct children to write around their handprint the Weekly Verse.
Grades 4-6
Introductory Activity – Creation Favorite
Materials: paper, marker, crayons
Give supplies to each child. Instruct your children to think about everything God has created worldwide. Tell them to choose a favorite thing He has made and to draw and color it. Encourage them to give it as much detail as possible. After everyone is finished, allow children to share their picture and why they drew it. Read the Weekly Verse to your children and remind them that God created everything.
Live It Out
Game – Days of Creation Production
Materials: items from your classroom
Form the kids into seven equal groups. Assign each group a day of creation and instruct them to determine a creative way to act out their day. After each group has planned what they will do, call each group up front to act out their day of creation. Afterward, write the Weekly Verse on the board and have everyone say it together.
Craft – Cookies from Heaven
Materials: sugar cookies, icing, sprinkles, plastic knives, allergy alert
Before class, bake sugar cookies in the shape of stars and the moon. Post the allergy alert near the door to inform parents. In class, give each child a cookie and instruct them to decorate their cookies with icing and sprinkles. After everyone has decorated their cookies, allow them to eat their cookies. While they are eating, review the days of creation with them and remind them of the Life Point.
