Grades 1-3
Introductory Activity – Sink or Float
Materials: large clear or container (like a dishpan), random objects
Pour 2 inches of water into the container. Tell the kids you will show them various items and they have to guess whether the items will sink or float when you drop the item into the water. Afterward, explain to your children that in today’s lesson, a woman will see God miraculously fill her jar with oil in order to supply for her needs. Have everyone say the Life Point together.
Live It Out
Game – Jar Puzzles
Materials: construction paper, markers, scissors
Give every child a piece of construction paper, a marker, and a pair of scissors. Instruct them to draw a large jar on their paper and to write the Life Point on the jar. Direct them to cut out their jar and then cut it into puzzle pieces. Tell them to jumble up their puzzle and swap with their neighbor. After everyone has solved their friend’s puzzle, have them say the Life Point together.
Craft – Providence Jar
Materials: empty food cans, construction paper, markers, tape, scissors
Before class, gather, clean, and remove the labels from the cans. Gather enough for each child to have one. Give each child one can, a piece of construction paper, markers, scissors, and tape. Instruct them to cut out a strip of construction paper that will wrap around their can. Next, tell them to write GOD’S PROVIDENCE and the Life Point on the strip of paper. Direct them to decorate the strip of paper with their markers. Direct them to wrap their can with the paper and tape it to the can. Next, tell them to cut out small strips of paper. On each strip, direct them to write down one way God has provided for them and then place them in their can. Encourage them to pull these strips out when they need to be reminded that God provides for them in their lives. Say the Weekly Verse together.
Grades 4-6
Introductory Activity – Oil Relay
Materials: buckets, water, small paper cups
Form two teams with your children and line them up on one side of the room. On the other side of the room, set a large bucket filled with water on the floor. Ten feet to the left and right of the water-filled bucket, place two empty buckets. Inform the teams that they will carry a cup to the water, fill it up, and then dump it in their team’s bucket. After dumping the water in the bucket, they will tag the next person in line to complete the same process. Inform them they cannot run, but only walk. The team that transports the most water to their bucket wins! Tell the kids they will hear how God helped a woman keep something full. Say the Weekly Verse together.
Live It Out
Game – Story Reenactment
Materials: no materials needed
Ask for volunteers to act out today’s Bible story. Instruct the volunteers to act out the story as you read 2 Kings 4:1-7. You will need volunteers to be: 1) the widow, 2) Elisha, 3) the widow’s sons, and 4) neighbors. Change roles several times and read the story again. Write the Weekly Verse on the board and have everyone say it together.

(You may want to draw a simple picture of a jar on your board for them to copy.) Direct them to write the Weekly Verse and Life Point on their jars and then decorate them. Tell the kids to cut out their jars and place them in their rooms to remember how God provides for people. Say the Life Point together.
