Rahab: Courageous Faith
The Point: The power of God that leads us to fear Him also leads us to trust Him.
Get Into the Study
Use the following story as an alternate introduction to the one found in your Personal Study Guide.
Most of us are familiar with the courageous stories of Martin Luther, William Wilberforce, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Mother Teresa. But you may not have heard of Poorna Malavath, from India. She courageously resisted family pressure to marry a cousin at age 12. As a self-described “sports girl”, Poorna was selected by her teachers for rock climbing training, earning first place of 110 students. Poorna had never seen snow, but after further training in -30° to -35°F temperatures, she was one of two members selected to climb Mount Everest. Poorna currently holds the record as the youngest girl to summit Mount Everest, at age 13 years, 11 months, on May 25, 2014. Amazon is currently streaming a movie based on her story.
Poorna is an example of someone who allowed courage to fuel her actions.

Live It Out
Use the following story and discussion during the Live it Out section to wrap up your discussion.
Three weeks after a series of bombs killed over 250 people in Sri Lanka, churches held their first Sunday morning masses in the cities of Colombo and Negombo, two of cities where churches were bombed on Easter Sunday. The Easter Sunday bombings appeared to be aimed at Christians. Bombers attacked three churches during Easter Sunday celebrations. Several hotels were also attacked.
Although Christians in the country continue to be wary of more attacks, many are choosing to act out of fear of God and trust in Him rather than being stifled by fear of man.
Ask: “How can the courage of persecuted Christians around the world encourage us to stand firm in the faith?”
