Preschool: Worshiping God: Session 1—Samuel in the Tabernacle (June 7)

1s & 2s—Sort Big and Little Feet

Bible Story: Samuel in the Tabernacle 1 Samuel 1:24-28; 2:18-26; 3:1-21
Life Point: People at church learn about God.
Weekly Verse: I will teach you the way to go. Psalm 32:8

Materials: Teaching Picture 1, paper foot shapes of different sizes, 2 shoe boxes

• Place the Teaching Picture, foot shapes, and boxes on the floor or a low table.
• Invite preschoolers to sort the foot shapes into the boxes by size. Comment on whether each shape is big or little.
• Talk about the Bible story as preschoolers play. Point to Samuel in the Teaching Picture. Comment that Samuel grew and learned about God at church.

3–Pre-K— Make a Fabric Collage

Materials: Teaching Picture 1, clear contact plastic, fabric scraps, adhesive labels printed with the Weekly Verse

• Cut the clear contact plastic into 10-by-10-inch squares. You will need 2 squares per child. Tape one square per child to the table, sticky side up.
• Provide fabric scraps for kids to collage on their sticky plastic. Talk about the Bible story as the children make their collages.
• Point to Samuel in the Teaching Picture. Comment that Samuel’s mother brought him a new coat to church every year; Samuel stayed at the church to learn about God.
• When a child is finished with her collage, help her put another piece of plastic over it. Give her a Weekly Verse label to put on the front.

Kindergarten— Measure with Blocks

Materials: Teaching Picture 1, wooden blocks, paper, marker

• Prop the Teaching Picture near the blocks. Lay the marker and paper on the floor.
• Invite two kids to work together to measure each other with the blocks. Explain that one can lie on the floor and the other can use blocks to measure how tall he is. Record their answers on the paper.
• Show the Teaching Picture and talk about the Bible story. Comment that Samuel stayed at the tabernacle. He grew and learned about God, just as they are growing and learning about God at church.
