1s & 2s—Put “Coins” in a Box
Bible Story: A Woman Gave All She Had Mark 12:41-44; Luke 21:1-4
Life Point: People at church give offerings.
Weekly Verse: Bring an offering to church. Malachi 3:10
Materials: Teaching Picture 12, large shoe box with lid, several canning lids, craft knife (teacher’s use)
- Use the craft knife to cut a narrow slit in the lid of the box that is big enough for the canning lids. Place the teaching picture, box, and canning lids together on the floor.
- Invite a child to drop the “coins” into the box. Show the teaching picture and tell the Bible story as the children play. Say that people bring their offerings to church.
- Lead the children to repeat the Weekly Verse with you.
3–Pre-K— Press Coins in Play Dough

Materials: Teaching Picture 12, play dough, assortment of coins, rolling pins
- Display the teaching picture with the play dough and coins.
- Give each child a lump of play dough. Encourage her to roll her play dough flat and to make prints by pressing coins into it.
- Talk about each kind of coin and how much it is worth. Point to the teaching picture and comment that the woman gave two small coins for her offering. Remark that people at church give offerings. Say the Weekly Verse together.
Kindergarten— Play Out the Bible Story

Life Point: People at church give offerings.
Weekly Verse: Bring an offering to church. Malachi 3:10
Materials: Teaching Picture 12, Bible times dress-up clothes, container of coins
- Remind the boys and girls that Jesus people bring offerings to church. Say the Weekly Verse.
- Provide a container of coins that other coins can be dropped into. Display the teaching picture with the Bible times clothes.
- Invite a group of kindergartners to play out the Bible story. Briefly tell the story and show the teaching picture. Remind the kids that Jesus was teaching in the temple when He saw the woman. Decide who will play the woman and Jesus. The other children can be the disciples and others in the temple. Give the child portraying the woman two pennies to drop in with the other coins.
- Narrate the story as the children play it out. Continue by allowing the children to change roles. Encourage a child to narrate when he is ready.
