Preschool: What Jesus Taught: Session 3—Jesus Taught to Help Others (August 17)

1s & 2s — Clean the Room

Bible Story: Jesus Taught to Help Others John 13:1-20
Life Point: Jesus taught that people should help one another.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “Do as I have done for you.” John 13:15

Materials: toy broom, cloths, spray bottles

  • Invite preschoolers to use the items to pretend to clean the room.
  • Comment that they are being kind and loving others by helping.
  • Say Jesus was taught that people should help one another.
  • Say the Weekly Verse.

3–Pre-K — Walk on a Bible Verse Path

Bible Story: Jesus Taught to Help Others John 13:1-20
Life Point: Jesus taught that people should help one another.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “Do as I have done for you.” John 13:15

Materials: heavyweight paper, clear contact plastic or clear packing tape, scissors, marker

  • Cut each paper in half. Print the words of the Weekly Verse onto the paper, one word per paper. Using clear contact plastic or packing tape, securely attach the papers to the floor in a path.
  • Invite a preschooler to step in the path. Say the words as he steps on each one. Encourage him to walk again and say the words of the verse with you. 
  • Comment that Jesus taught that people should help one another.

Kindergarten — Write Cards for Homebound Members

Life Point: Jesus taught that people should help one another.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “Do as I have done for you.” John 13:15

Materials: cardstock folded into cards, markers, decorative stickers (no fantasy), paper, large brown envelope

  • Before the session choose one or two members of your church who are homebound or in the hospital. Address a large brown envelope with the correct address. 
  • On sheets of paper print the Weekly Verse and other encouraging phrases like I prayed for you or Jesus loves you. 
  • Invite kindergartners to make a card for someone. Explain that the person to whom you will give the cards cannot come to church.
  • Tell kids to copy the verse and one of the other phrases onto their cards. They can decorate them by drawing or adding decorative stickers.
  • Pray for the person or persons who will receive the cards. Thank kids for showing love and helping others like Jesus taught.
