Bible Story: Jesus Calmed a Storm Mark 4:35-41
Life Point: Jesus is God’s Son.
Weekly Verse: Jesus told the wind and sea to be still. Mark 4:39
Materials: Teaching Picture 13, lazy Susan, paper, crayons
- Cut paper in circles to fit the lazy Susan. Print today’s Bible verse in the center of each paper. Invite a preschooler to draw on the paper as you slowly spin the lazy Susan.
- Tell the Bible story. Show the teaching picture. Remark that Jesus could calm the storm because He is God’s Son.
- Point to the words on the paper as you say the verse. Thank God for Jesus, His Son.
3–Pre-K— Build on a Boat Shape
Bible Story: Jesus Calmed a Storm Mark 4:35-41
Life Point: Jesus is God’s Son.
Weekly Verse: Jesus told the wind and sea to be still. Mark 4:39
Materials: Teaching Picture 13, wooden blocks, masking tape
- Tape a boat outline on the floor of the block area. Display the teaching picture near the blocks.
- Invite preschoolers to build on the boat shape. Show the teaching picture and continue telling the Bible story. Say the Weekly Verse with the children.
- Tell the children that the boat was about to sink, but Jesus stopped the storm. Say that Jesus could do that because He is God’s Son.
Kindergarten— Make a Rain Stick
Bible Story: Jesus Calmed a Storm Mark 4:35-41
Life Point: Jesus is God’s Son.
Weekly Verse: Jesus told the wind and sea to be still. Mark 4:39
Materials: Cylindrical cans with lids (like chip cans), foam packing peanuts, uncooked rice, paper, markers, colored dot stickers
- Cut paper to fit around the chip canisters. Give each kindergartner a paper to decorate with markers and stickers. Tell the Bible story as kids work on their papers.
- Help each kid tape his paper onto his canister. Direct him to add two spoons of rice and to loosely fill the container with the packing peanuts. Tape the lid onto the can.
- Tell kids to turn their cans over and listen carefully. Ask: “What does that sound make you think of? Does it sound like rain?”
- Remind the kids that Jesus stopped a storm of wind and rain. Comment that Jesus was God’s Son and had power to stop the storm.
