Preschool: What Does the Church Do?: Session 4—Jesus’ Special Supper (February 28)

November 6, 2020 By Kimba Campbell 1 Comment

1s & 2s— Scribble on a Box

Bible Story: Jesus’ Special Supper Matthew 26:17-19,26-30; 1 Corinthians 11:1;7-29
Life Point: At church, people remember what Jesus did.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “Do this and remember Me.” 1 Corinthians 11:24

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, other pictures of Jesus, large box, crayons, basket

  • Attach the Teaching Picture  and other pictures on one side of the box. Stand the box in an open area of your classroom. Place the crayons in a basket on the floor near the box.
  • Invite preschoolers to scribble on the box using the crayons. Talk about the Bible story as preschoolers draw.
  • Comment that people at church can remember what Jesus did. Point to the pictures of Jesus and talk about the things Jesus did.
  • Social Distancing Tip: Arrange four children, one on each side of the box. Hand that child a crayon (don’t use a basket). Set aside the crayon when a child is finished.

3–Pre-K— Spell JESUS

Bible Story: Jesus’ Special Supper Matthew 26:17-19,26-30; 1 Corinthians 11:1;7-29
Life Point: At church, people learn about the Lord’s Supper.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “Do this and remember Me.” 1 Corinthians 11:24

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, paper, marker, clear contact plastic, cotton balls, small bowl

  • Print JESUS in large letters on a paper. Attach the paper to a wall at children’s eye level. Attach a strip of clear contact plastic over the name, sticky side out. Put the cotton balls in a small bowl under the sign.
  • Call attention to Jesus’ name. Invite boys and girls to spell the name by sticking cotton balls on the plastic over the letters of the name.
  • Tell the Bible story as children spell. Comment that people at church can remember what Jesus did. Show the Teaching Picture and point to Jesus.
  • Social Distancing Tip: Allow two children at a time to put the cotton balls on the plastic. If the plastic is full before all children have a turn, tape a clean piece over the name.

Kindergarten— Match Bible Verse Letters

Bible Story: Jesus’ Special Supper Matthew 26:17-19,26-30; 1 Corinthians 11:1;7-29
Life Point: At church, people learn about the Lord’s Supper.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “Do this and remember Me.” 1 Corinthians 11:24

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, paper plates, narrow sticky notes, marker

  • Print the words of the Weekly Verse around the edge of a paper plate. Print the reference in the center. Print each letter for the words of the verse on the non-sticky end of separate sticky notes. Make a plate and set of sticky notes for each child.
  • Tell the Bible story as kids come to the center. Comment that people at church can remember what Jesus did.
  • Read the verse together with the children. Show them how to match each letter of the verse by sticking it to the edge of the plate.
  • Pray, thanking God for His Son, Jesus.
  • Social Distancing Tip: Allow only two kids to participate in this activity at a time.
