Preschool: We Can Worship God: Session 4—Hannah Prayed in the Tabernacle (February 27)

1s & 2s— Shine Flashlights

Bible Story: Hannah Prayed in the Tabernacle 1 Samuel 1
Life Point: People at church pray to God.
Weekly Verse: I pray to God, and He hears me. Psalm 77:1

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, flashlights, tape

  • Tape the Teaching Picture to the wall at a preschooler’s eye level.
  • Show a preschooler how to shine the light on the picture taped to the wall.
  • Talk about the Bible story as the preschooler shines the light.
  • Tell the preschoolers that people at church pray to God. Say the Weekly Verse.

3–Pre-K— Sponge Paint on People Shapes

Bible Story: Hannah Prayed in the Tabernacle 1 Samuel 1
Life Point: People at church pray to God.
Weekly Verse: I pray to God, and He hears me. Psalm 77:1

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, large people shapes, paint in shallow pans, painting smocks, sponges, spring clothespins, safety pins

  • Put a safety pin on one flat side of each sponge. Clip a clothespin onto to the safety pin. Cover the art table with newspaper. Display the Teaching Picture.
  • Print the Weekly Verse onto a person shape for each child. Give each child a person shape. Show him how to dip the sponge in the paint and press it onto his shape.
  • Talk about the Bible story as children paint. Point to the Teaching Picture and comment that Hannah prayed to God and He listened to her prayer.
  • Say that people at church pray to God.

Kindergarten— Build the Tabernacle

Bible Story: Hannah Prayed in the Tabernacle 1 Samuel 1
Life Point: People at church pray to God.
Weekly Verse: I pray to God, and He hears me. Psalm 77:1

Materials: Bible, Teaching Picture 13, wooden blocks, fabric pieces, picture of the tabernacle (Illustrated Bible Dictionary for Kids)

  • Display the Teaching Picture and tabernacle picture with the blocks and fabric.
  • Tell the Bible story as kids come to the block center. Point to Hannah in the Teaching Picture. Explain that Hannah was at the tabernacle, which was a tent church. Say that Hannah prayed to God and God heard her prayer.
  • Encourage kids to look at the picture and build a tabernacle. Open the Bible to Psalm 77:1 and read aloud the Weekly Verse. Lead the kids to say the verse with you.
