Bible Story: Paul Wrote to Philemon Philemon
Life Point: The Bible helps people know what to do.
Weekly Verse: All that the Bible says is from God. 2 Timothy 3:16
Materials: Teaching Picture 4, poster board, marker, three or four Bibles of different sizes
- Lay the Bibles on the poster board and trace around each one with the marker. Place the Bibles and teaching picture on the floor next to the poster.
- Invite a preschooler to match each Bible to its outline. Tell the Bible story as the preschoolers play. Comment that Paul wrote to a friend to remind him that the Bible helps people know what to do.
- Point to Paul in the teaching picture and say the Weekly Verse.
3–Pre-K— Make a Scroll

Materials: newsprint, yarn, markers, labels with Weekly Verse
- Cut the pieces of newsprint into 6-by-18-inch strips. Briefly tell the Bible story as children come to the center. Explain that Paul wrote his letters on scrolls, long pieces of paper that were rolled to the center.
- Give each child a Bible verse label to stick on his paper. Encourage the children to use the markers to decorate their scrolls.
- When finished, help the children roll the papers from each end to the center and tie with a length of yarn.
- Say that Paul’s letter helped remind Philemon that the Bible helps people know what to do.
Kindergarten—Write with Bamboo Pens

Weekly Verse: All that the Bible says is from God. 2 Timothy 3:16
Materials: paper, bamboo pens (available in craft stores), black tempera paint, small containers, marker
- Say the Life Point and Weekly Verse together. Say a prayer, thanking God for the Bible that helps us know what to do.
- Print the Life Point and Weekly Verse on a sheet of paper. Place the paper in the center of the table with the other materials.
- Show a child how to dip the end of the pen into the paint and make a mark on her paper. Suggest that she copy the Life Point and Weekly Verse onto her paper.
- Comment that Paul wrote his letters using a pen something like she is using. Talk about the Bible story.
