Preschool: The Bible Is True: Session 2—Philip Taught About Jesus (March 9)

1s & 2s— Paint with Vehicles

Bible Story: Philip Taught About Jesus Acts 8:26-40
Life Point: People use the Bible tell others about Jesus.
Weekly Verse: Philip told the good news about Jesus. Acts 8:35

Materials: Teaching Picture2; toy truck, car, wagon; shallow pan; paper towels; washable paint; painting smocks; paper; marker or pencil

  • Fold a wet paper towel and lay it inside the shallow pan. Pour paint over the towel to make a stamping surface. 
  • Help a child put on a smock before painting. Print a child’s name on a paper. Show how to roll a vehicle over the paint and then onto a paper. 
  • Talk about the Bible story as preschoolers paint. Point to the picture and mention that the man was traveling in a chariot, which is something like a wagon. Say that Philip used the Bible to tell the man about Jesus.

3–Pre-K— Talk on Telephones

Life Point: People use the Bible tell others about Jesus.
Weekly Verse: Philip told the good news about Jesus. Acts 8:35

Materials: Teaching Picture 2, toy telephones, old cell phones (remove batteries), paper strip

  • Use the paper strip to mark Acts 8:35 in the Bible. Arrange the Bible with the phones on a table. Display the teaching picture.
  • Point to the teaching picture and tell the Bible story as children come to the center. Comment that Philip helped the man understand the Bible scroll so he could learn about Jesus.
  • Suggest that children use the phones to “call” people and tell them about Jesus. Help the children remember things they know about Jesus. 
  • Open the Bible and show where the Bible story and Weekly Verse are located. Say the verse together.

Kindergarten— Play a Nature Game

Materials: Teaching Picture 2; assorted nature items such as rocks, shells, twigs, flowers, leaves, toy lizards or insects, and so forth; poster board; marker; bag

  • Show the gameboard. Invite a child to choose an item from the bag and match it to its outline. When all the items are matched, encourage kids to say the Weekly Verse with you. Mention that people use the Bible to tell others about Jesus; Philip helped the man understand the Bible scroll to learn who Jesus is.
  • Collect at least two of each item that are different sizes. Trace the items onto the poster board. Display the teaching picture on the floor near the board. Place the items in the bag.
  • Tell the Bible story when kids show interest in the center. Point to the teaching picture and comment that Philip and the man were outside. Ask what kinds of things the men might have seen.
