Preschool: The Amazing Power of Jesus: Session 5–Breakfast with Jesus (September 29)

1s & 2s—Find Shells in Sand

Bible Story: Breakfast with Jesus John 21:1-19
Life Point: Jesus can give people what they need.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “Follow Me.” John 21:19
Materials: Teaching Picture 5, container of sand, large seashells, drop cloth

  • Bury the seashells in the sand. Place the container on the drop cloth on the floor. Lay the Teaching Picture nearby.
  • Invite preschoolers to dig in the sand to find something. When a child finds a shell, identify it as a seashell.
  • Comment: “Jesus made breakfast for His friends by the sea. Jesus loved His friends gave them what they needed.”

3–Pre-K—Make Toast

Bible Story: Breakfast with Jesus John 21:1-19
Life Point: Jesus can give people what they need.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “Follow Me.” John 21:19
Materials: Teaching Picture 5, “Allergy Alert” (Printables), bread, soft butter, cinnamon and sugar in a shaker, plastic knives, small paper plates, napkins, toaster oven

  • Post the allergy alert to inform parents of the activity. Put the toaster oven out of children’s reach.
  • Give each child a piece of bread and guide him to spread butter on the bread and then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
  • Talk about the Bible story as children wait for the bread to toast. Show the Teaching Picture. Mention that Jesus and His friends ate fish and bread for breakfast. Lead the children to say the Weekly Verse together.

Kindergarten— Pretend to Cook on a Campfire

Bible Story: Breakfast with Jesus John 21:1-19
Life Point: Jesus can give people what they need.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “Follow Me.” John 21:19
Materials: Teaching Picture 6; small sticks; red, yellow, and orange tissue paper; toy pans; paper fish; skewers; small stand-up rack (optional)

  • Use the sticks and tissue paper to build a fire. If using, stand the rack over the fire. Thread the paper fish onto skewers and lay them on the rack with the pans. Prop the Teaching Picture nearby.
  • As kids play say that Jesus cooked fish and bread over a fire for His friends. Show the Teaching Picture and tell the Bible story. Comment that Jesus can give people what they need.
