Preschool: Thank You, God, for the Bible: Session 1—Jesus Read the Scroll/Jesus Taught Nicodemus (June 5)

1s & 2s— Build with Plastic Blocks

Bible Story: Jesus Read the Scroll Luke 4:16-22
Life Point: The Bible tells about Jesus.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “The Bible tells about Me.” Luke 4:21

Materials: Bible, Teaching Picture 1, plastic interlocking blocks (like Duplo® Bricks)

  • Display the Teaching Picture with the blocks. 
  • Talk about the Bible story as preschoolers play. Point to Jesus in the Teaching Picture. Remark that Jesus wanted people to know the Bible tells about Him.
  • Open the Bible and read the Bible verse. Comment that we read the Bible at church and home.

3–Pre-K— Stamp Words

Bible Story: Jesus Read the Scroll Luke 4:16-22
Life Point: The Bible tells about Jesus.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “The Bible tells about Me.” Luke 4:21

Materials: Teaching Picture 1, letter stamps, washable stamp pads, paper, marker

  • Print the words BIBLE and JESUS on a paper. Cut the other papers in half.
  • Invite children to use the letter stamps to spell the words on the paper. Allow children to stamp other letters or their names.
  • Tell the Bible story as children work. Explain that Jesus told the people that the Bible is about Him. Show the Teaching Picture.
  • Say the Weekly Verse together. Thank God for the Bible that tells about Jesus.

Kindergarten— Investigate Bibles

Bible Story: Jesus Taught Nicodemus John 3:1-21
Life Point: The Bible tells why God sent Jesus. 
Weekly Verse: God loved the world and sent His Son, Jesus. John 3:16

Materials: several Bibles, paper strips, paper, marker, magnifying glasses

  • Use paper strips to mark John 3:16, Isaiah 61:1, Mark 10:45, and John 17:3 in the Bibles. Print the verses on a sheet of paper for kids to read.
  • Invite preschoolers to open the Bibles to the marked verses and locate each verse. Tell them to look for words, names, or letters from the verses in the Bible. Preschoolers can use magnifying glasses to look if they want.
  • Tell the Bible story as the children search. Comment that the Bible tells why God sent Jesus; they can learn about Jesus by reading the Bible.
