Preschool: Telling About Jesus: Session 4—Paul Taught in Athens (May 24)

1s & 2s— Carry the Bible

Bible Story: Paul Taught in Athens Acts 17:16-34
Life Point: People can tell about God
Weekly Verse: We must tell what we have seen and heard. Acts 4:20

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, Read to Me Bible for Kids or other picture Bible, tote bag or small backpack

  • Sit on the floor with the teaching picture, Bible, and bag. Invite a preschooler to sit with you and look at the Bible. Find pictures of Jesus in the Bible and talk about the Bible stories related to those pictures. Say today’s Weekly Verse. Remark that the Bible helps teach people what God says.
  • Show today’s teaching picture. Point to Paul and comment that Paul told people about Jesus. He taught the people that Jesus is God’s Son.
  • Help the preschooler put the Bible in the bag and encourage her to carry it.

3–Pre-K— Play a Bible Verse Game

Bible Story: Paul Taught in Athens Acts 17:16-34
Life Point: People can tell about God
Weekly Verse: We must tell what we have seen and heard. Acts 4:20

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, index cards, marker, magnet tape, sentence strip or long strip of paper, box, shredded paper, magnetic surface, tape (An oil drip pan makes a great magnetic playing area.)

  • Write the Weekly Verse on index cards, one word per card. Put a piece of magnetic tape on the back of each card and hide them in the shredded paper in the box. Print the verse on the sentence strip, leaving space between the words to fit the cards under each word. Tape the strip to the top of the magnetic surface. Display the teaching picture.
  • As children come to the center, tell the Bible story and show the teaching picture. Then read the verse from the sentence strip. Comment that Paul was doing what God said to do; he was telling people about Jesus.
  • Invite the children to find the cards in the paper and attach them to the magnetic board under the matching words. Read the verse together. Tell kids that their teachers are teaching them about Jesus. Encourage children to hide the cards back in the box.

Kindergarten— Pretend to Teach Babies

Bible Story: Paul Taught in Athens Acts 17:16-34
Life Point: People can tell about God
Weekly Verse: We must tell what we have seen and heard. Acts 4:20

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, Bibles, quilt, baby dolls, baby care items, baby toys, baby board books

  • Invite kids to pretend to teach babies in a Sunday School class. They can sit on the quilt and play with and talk to babies about Jesus.
  • Encourage kids to “read” the Bible to a baby and tell it something about Jesus.
  • Show the teaching picture and talk about the Bible story. Comment that Paul was teaching men about Jesus in a city called Athens. Say the Weekly Verse and prompt the kids to repeat it with you. Thank God for providing teachers at church.
