1s & 2s—Use Megaphones

Bible Story: Samuel Followed God’s Plan 1 Samuel 16:1-13
Life Point: People show God’s love when they follow God’s plan.
Weekly Verse: We will do all God says. Exodus 19:8

Materials: Bible, Teaching Picture 10, toy megaphones

• Use a toy megaphone to say the Bible phrase for children to hear. If they are interested, give them megaphones to use.
• While children talk to one another, tell the Bible story and look at the Teaching Picture. Tell the preschoolers that Samuel followed God’s plan when He helped choose a new king. Say that people can show God’s love to others by doing what God says.

3–Pre-K— Play with Cars and Traffic Signs

Materials: Teaching Picture 10, heavyweight paper, permanent marker, scissors, tape, toy cars, wooden blocks

• Use the heavyweight paper and markers to create simple traffic signs that would be familiar to kids. Cut out the signs and tape them to small blocks. Arrange the signs with the cars and wooden blocks. Prop the Teaching Picture nearby.
• Invite kids to make roads with the blocks and to add the traffic signs. Comment obeying the signs keeps people safe.
• Talk about the Bible story as kids play. Say that we can show love to God by following God’s plan, which means obeying Him. Say the Weekly Verse together.

Kindergarten—Make a Banner

Bible Story: Samuel Followed God’s Plan 1 Samuel 16:1-13
Life Point: People show God’s love when they follow God’s plan.
Weekly Verse: We will do all God says. Exodus 19:8

Materials: large sheet of paper, permanent marker, tape, several colors of paint in cups, paintbrushes, painting smocks

• Tape the paper to a table. Print on the paper the Life Point and the Weekly Verse.
• Invite boys and girls to paint on the banner around the words. Read the Life Point and the verse. Explain that following God’s plan means obeying God.
• Talk about the Bible story as kids paint. Say that Samuel obeyed God’s plan to find then new king, David.
