Preschool: People Follow God’s Plan: Session 1—Joseph Helped Pharaoh (November 6)

1s & 2s— Work People Puzzles

Bible Story: Joseph Helped Pharaoh Genesis 41:1-36
Life Point: God makes people able to do different things.
Weekly Verse: God made us and we are His. Psalm 100:3

Materials: Teaching Picture 10, wooden puzzles featuring people

  • Place all the items together on the floor with the Teaching Picture.
  • Invite preschoolers to work the puzzles. Talk about the different people. Say that God made people able to do different things.
  • Show the Teaching Picture and talk about the Bible story. Comment that God helped Joseph tell the king what his dream meant.
  • State the Weekly Verse as the children continue to play.

3–Pre-K— Decorate a Name

Bible Story: Joseph Helped Pharaoh Genesis 41:1-36
Life Point: God makes people able to do different things.
Weekly Verse: God made us and we are His. Psalm 100:3

Materials: Teaching Picture 10, paper, marker (or computer), markers, crayons, simple stickers

  • Using a marker or the computer, print JOSEPH on a sheet of paper. Leave room at the bottom or top to print the Weekly Verse in smaller letters. Make a copy for each child.
  • Give each child a paper and point to and read the name. Direct kids to decorate the name on their papers. 
  • Tell the Bible story as the children work. Say the God made Joseph able to tell Pharaoh the meaning of his dream. 
  • Point to Joseph in the Teaching Picture and say the Weekly Verse.

Kindergarten— Use Letter Stencils

Bible Story: Joseph Helped Pharaoh Genesis 41:1-36
Life Point: God makes people able to do different things.
Weekly Verse: God made us and we are His. Psalm 100:3

Materials: Bible, 2 paper strips, Teaching Picture 10, letter stencils, paper, colored pencils

  • Place one paper strip in the Bible at Psalm 100. Print JOSEPH on the other strip of paper for kids to see and spell the name.
  • Invite the kindergartners to use the stencils to make the name on a paper. If necessary, show how to use the stencil by tracing around the inside of the letter shape. Allow kids to use the stencils to make other words, names, or random letters.
  • Talk about the Bible story. Comment that Joseph was able to tell Pharaoh the meaning of his dream. Say that God made Joseph able to do different things.
  • Look the Teaching Picture together. Help each child open the Bible to the Weekly Verse and say it together.
