Preschool: People Can Obey God: Session 3—Elijah on Mount Carmel (October 18)

1s & 2s—Look Through Tubes

Bible Story: Elijah on Mount Carmel 1 Kings 18:1-39
Life Point: We can obey God by worshiping only Him.
Weekly Verse: The Lord is God. There is no other God. 1 Kings 8:60

Materials: Teaching Picture 7, cardboard tubes, clear contact plastic, tape

• Attach the Teaching Picture to a wall at children’s eye level. Cover several cardboard tubes with clear contact plastic.
• Lead preschoolers to look at the teaching picture though the tubes. Comment that Elijah’s helper looked for clouds in the sky; God sent the rain after many years, because God can do all things. Say the Life Point and the Weekly Verse.
• Take a one or two preschoolers at a time outdoors, or peer through the windows, to look for clouds in the sky.

3–Pre-K—Make Rain

Materials: Teaching Picture 7, gallon-size ziplock bag, large clear container of water, strainers, colanders, drop cloth, towels

• Put a few inches of water into the large clear container. Layer the materials in this order: drop cloth, towel, teaching picture in ziplock bag, clear container of water.
• Invite boys and girls to play with the water and make “rain” with the strainers and colanders. Point to the teaching picture under the water. 
• Talk about the Bible story as the children play. Comment that God showed that He is the only God. Say the Weekly Verse together.

Kindergarten—Stamp the Bible Verse

Materials: Teaching Picture 7, paper, marker, letter stamps, stamp pads

• Print the Weekly Verse onto a paper. Display the verse with the materials on a table. 
• As kids come to the table, point to the teaching picture and tell the Bible story. Mention that God is the only God, and He showed the people on Mount Carmel that He is the only God.
• Point to the verse paper and read aloud the verse to the kids. Encourage them to use the letter stamps to print the verse on their papers.
• Pray, thanking God that He is the only God.
