Preschool: People Can Obey God: Session 2—Joshua and Jericho (October 11)

1s & 2s— Roll a Ball

Bible Story: Joshua and Jericho Joshua 6:1-21
Life Point: We obey God when we do what He says.
Weekly Verse: Love God and always do what He says. Deuteronomy 30:20

Materials: Teaching Picture 6, beach ball

  • Invite a few preschoolers to sit on the floor with you. Gently roll a ball to one child as you say the Weekly Verse. Continue rolling the ball to other preschoolers and saying the verse. Help preschoolers say the verse with you.
  • Show the teaching picture. Tell preschoolers that the people listened and obeyed God, then God made the walls fall down.

3–Pre-K— Pose for Pictures

Materials: Teaching Picture 6, Bible times clothes, cardboard tubes, digital camera

  • Show the teaching picture as children come to the center. Tell the Bible story as you point to the people marching around the walls.
  • Invite several children to dress up in the clothes. Give one or two children a cardboard tube as a trumpet. Tell children to pose like they are marching around the walls of Jericho. Offer to take a picture of the children.
  • Tell kids that the people obeyed God. Children can obey God, too. Talk about ways children can obey God.

Kindergarten—Make a Wall Book

Bible Story: Joshua and Jericho Joshua 6:1-21

Weekly Verse: Love God and always do what He says. Deuteronomy 30:20

Materials: Heavyweight paper, markers, stapler

  • Print the Weekly Verse onto a sheet of paper. Cut the heavyweight paper into four pieces. 
  • Tell kids the Bible story as the arrive at the center. Show the paper with the verse printed. Point to each word and say the verse with the kids. 
  • Give each kid 4 pieces of the heavyweight paper. Guide them to print the verse on one piece and draw pictures or print words about the Bible story on the other pages. Tell kids they can draw on the back of each page to make it look like a wall.
  • Remind kids that the people obeyed God, and God helped them defeat the city.
