Bible Story: David Played Music for the King 1 Samuel 16:14-23

Weekly Verse: Help one another in love. Galatians 5:13
Materials: two colors of construction paper, tape, Music
- Cut the construction paper into 4-inch squares. Securely tape the squares to the floor in a large circle. Place the Music nearby.
- Invite kids to play a game on the squares. Call attention to the colors of the squares.
- Play a song and guide kids to walk on the squares as the music plays. When the music stops, call out an action for anyone standing on a certain color. For example, say: “If you are standing on red, jump three times.”
- Continue to play music and call out actions. Tell the children that David played music to help the king. Guide children to repeat the Bible verse.
3–Pre-K—Make a Reminder

Materials: adhesive labels, clear contact plastic, small pieces of tissue paper, hole punch, yarn
- Print I can love and help others. onto adhesive labels. Cut the contact plastic into 5-by-9-inch pieces, 2 per child.
- Invite the children to make a reminder. Talk about the Bible story. State how David helped King Saul by playing music.
- Give each child a piece of plastic and adhesive label. Point to the label and read the words. Peel off the backing of the plastic and lay it sticky side up on the table. The child should cover the plastic with tissue paper and attach his label. Help him cover his reminder with another piece of clear plastic. Punch a hole in the top and tie a piece of yarn through the hole.
- Tell the children to hang their reminders somewhere to remind them to love and help others.
Kindergarten—Make Musical Instruments
Bible Story: David Played Music for the King 1 Samuel 16:14-23

Weekly Verse: Help one another in love. Galatians 5:13
Materials: Bible, empty tissue boxes, rubber bands, empty coffee cans with lids, bottles with lids, bead or bells
- Arrange the items on a table. Invite boys and girls to use the items to make instruments. The tissue boxes and rubber bands can be made into “guitars.” The coffee cans will work as drums. The bottles can be made into shakers.
- Assist in any way necessary. Talk about the Bible story as children work. Say that David played his lyre to help the king.
- When the instruments have been made, tell them to play instruments as you read a verse.
- Read Galatians 5:13 as kids gently play the instruments. Comment that people can choose to love and help others.
