Bible Story: Jesus Read the Scriptures Luke 4:16-22
Life Point: Jesus taught that the Bible tells about Him.
Weekly Verse: God sent Jesus to tell the good news. Luke 4:18

Materials: Bible, Teaching Picture 1, large plastic interlocking blocks

• Display the Teaching Picture with the blocks.
• Talk about the Bible story as preschoolers play. Point to Jesus in the Teaching Picture. Remark that Jesus wanted people to know the Bible tells about Him.
• Open the Bible and read the Bible verse. Comment that we learn about Jesus from the Bible.

3–Pre-K—Investigate Bibles

Materials: Teaching Picture 1, several different Bibles, paper strips, paper, marker, magnifying glasses

• Use paper strips to mark Isaiah 9:6, Psalm 86:9, and Psalm 18:1 in the Bibles. Or mark one different verse in each Bible. Print the Weekly Verses for the unit on separate sheets of paper. Display the Teaching Picture, verses, and magnifying glasses.
• Invite preschoolers to open the Bibles to the marked verses and look for words on the Bible Markers, names, or letters. Preschoolers can use magnifying glasses to look for words, if they want.
• Tell the Bible story as the children search. Point to Jesus in the Teaching Picture. Comment that Jesus said the Bible tells about Him. Say we learn about Jesus from the Bible.

Kindergarten—Build a Synagogue

Materials: Teaching Picture 1, wooden blocks, picture of synagogue (Illustrated Bible Dictionary for Kids, p. 194)

• Display the picture of the synagogue and the Teaching Picture next to the blocks.
• Invite kindergartners to build a synagogue with the blocks. Point to the picture of the synagogue and tell them a synagogue was a place of worship, like a church.
• Talk about the Bible story as kids build. Comment that Jesus said that the Bible tells about Him. Talk about things kids have learned about Jesus from the Bible.
