Preschool: Jesus Is Powerful: Session 4—Jesus Walked on Water (January 25)

1s & 2s—Use Toy Microphones

Bible Story: Jesus Walked on Water Matthew 14:22-33
Life Point: Jesus can do anything because He is God’s Son.
Weekly Verse: You are the Son of God. Matthew 14:33

Materials: Teaching Picture 8, toy microphones

  • Place the microphones near the teaching picture.
  • As preschoolers show interest in the microphones, pick up one and use it to say the Life Point. Point to the teaching picture and talk about the Bible story. 
  • Offer the microphone to a preschooler. Lead her to say the Weekly Verse into the microphone.

3s–Pre-K—Float Boats

Bible Story: Jesus Walked on Water Matthew 14:22-33
Life Point: Jesus can do anything because He is God’s Son.
Weekly Verse: You are the Son of God. Matthew 14:33

Materials: Teaching Picture 8, toy boats, large container of water, dropcloth, towel

  • Place the container in the center of the dropcloth on the floor. Place the towel and boats nearby. If the water container is clear, place the teaching paper under the container.
  • Invite a few children to float the boats in the water. Tell the Bible story as children play. Point to the teaching picture. Say that the disciples were amazed at what Jesus could do. 
  • Comment that Jesus can do anything because He is God’s Son. Say the Weekly Verse with the children. 

Kindergarten—Paint Storm Pictures

Bible Story: Jesus Walked on Water Matthew 14:22-33
Life Point: Jesus can do anything because He is God’s Son.
Weekly Verse: You are the Son of God. Matthew 14:33

Materials: paper, dark tempera paints, paint cups, paintbrushes, painting smocks, paper, Teaching Picture 1

  • Encourage the children to wear a smock while painting. Briefly talk about the Bible story and show the teaching picture. 
  • Suggest that children could use the paint to make a storm picture. Ask about storms the children might have experienced. Help them think about what a stormy sky looks like.
  • Ask if anyone has ever been afraid during a storm. Comment that Jesus will help them to not be afraid.
