Bible Story: Jesus Calmed a Storm Mark 4:35-41; Luke 8:22-25
Life Point: Jesus can tell the weather what to do.
Weekly Verse: Jesus told the wind and sea to be still. Mark 4:39
Materials: basket-type coffee filters, cups of water, blue food color, paintbrushes, painting smocks, permanent marker
- Put a few drops of food color into each cup of water.
- Help a preschooler put on a painting smock. Print her name on a coffee filter with the permanent marker.
- Guide preschoolers to paint on the coffee filter. Remark that the paint reminds you of water.
- Talk about the Bible story as preschoolers paint. Say the Weekly Verse and the Life Point.
3s–Pre-K—Play Out the Bible Story
Bible Story: Jesus Calmed a Storm Mark 4:35-41; Luke 8:22-25
Life Point: Jesus can tell the weather what to do.
Weekly Verse: Jesus told the wind and sea to be still. Mark 4:39
Materials: Bible, Teaching Picture 6, Bible times dress-up clothes, masking tape, pool noodles
- Make a large boat outline on the floor with the masking tape. Cut two pool noodles in half to use as oars. Lay the Bible, teaching picture, and dress-up clothes nearby.
- Invite several preschoolers to dress up and play out the story. They can look at the picture or you could narrate the story for them to play out.
- Encourage them to take turns playing different parts in the story. (Several children may want to be Jesus.)
- Lead the children to say the Weekly Verse together. Say that Jesus can tell the weather what to do.
Kindergarten—Play a Beanbag Toss Game

Life Point: Jesus can tell the weather what to do.
Weekly Verse: Jesus told the wind and sea to be still. Mark 4:39
Materials: paper, marker, tape, beanbag, Giant Game Floormat (optional)
- Print the letters of Jesus’ name onto paper, one letter per paper. Print the letters large enough to fill the paper. Make at least two sets of letters.
- Tape the letters in a random grid on the floor. Or insert the letters into the pockets of the Giant Game Floormat. (Blank spaces are okay.)
- When a kindergartner shows interest in the game, talk about the story. Give him the beanbag and encourage him to toss the beanbag onto the first letter of Jesus’ name.
- Challenge him to toss the beanbag on the letters of Jesus’ name in order.
- After a child has spelled the name, say the Weekly Verse. Comment that Jesus can tell the weather what to do.
