1s & 2s—Paint on Fish Shapes
Bible Story: Jesus Helped His Disciples John 21:1-19
Life Point: Jesus loved and helped His friends.
Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “I love you.” John 15:9
Materials: Teaching Picture 3, paper cut into simple fish shapes, washable paint, paintbrushes, painting smocks, paper plates
- Pour a small amount of paint into paper plates. Help a child to put on a smock before painting.
- Tell the Bible story as preschoolers paint. Ask if they recognize the shape of their papers. Comment that Jesus loved and helped his friends by cooking fish for breakfast.
- Point to the teaching picture and continue talking about the Bible story.
3–Pre-K—Paint with Fish Sponges

Weekly Verse: Jesus said, “I love you.” John 15:9
Materials: washable paint, sponges cut into fish shapes, wooden or plastic spools, glue, aluminum pie pan, painting smocks, paper, paper towels
- Glue a spool to the back of each sponge. Pour paint into the pie pans. Add a damp paper towel to create a stamping surface. Write the Weekly Verse on a paper for each child.
- Help boys and girls put on smocks before painting. As the press the sponges on their papers, talk about the Bible story. Comment that Jesus loved His friends. He helped them catch fish and cooked fish and bread for breakfast.
Kindergarten—Pretend to Camp

Materials: wooden blocks or large rocks; small sticks; red, yellow, and orange tissue paper; small frying pan; spatula; fishing pole and tackle box; optional: tent
- Use the blocks, sticks, and tissue paper to build a pretend campfire. Place the pan and spatula next to the fire. Stand the fishing pole with the tackle box nearby.
- Talk about the Bible story as children play. Ask about camping experiences the children may have had. Mention that Jesus loved and helped His disciples.
- Say the Weekly Verse with the kids.
