Preschool: In the Beginning: Session 5—Joseph Loved His Brothers (August 30)

1s & 2s—Set the Table

Bible Story: Joseph Loved His Brothers Genesis 37; 42:1-8,25-26; 43:1-2,15-17; 45:1-14; 46:28-34; 50:15-21
Life Point: God wants people to choose to show love.
Weekly Verse: Be kind to one another. Ephesians 4:32

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, toy dishes, placemats, table

  • Prop the Teaching Picture near the table with the dishes.
  • Invite the preschoolers to set the table. Talk about times at home when preschoolers family have a meal together.
  • Show the Teaching Picture and talk about the Bible story. Tell the children that Joseph loved his brothers and helped them.

3–Pre-K— Draw with Cars and Crayons

Bible Story: Joseph Loved His Brothers Genesis 37; 42:1-8,25-26; 43:1-2,15-17; 45:1-14; 46:28-34; 50:15-21
Life Point: God wants people to choose to show love.
Weekly Verse: Be kind to one another. Ephesians 4:32

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, toy cars, tape, crayons, paper

  • Tape two crayons to opposite sides of a car so that the tip of the crayons touches paper when the car is driven. Make sets with different colors.
  • Encourage boys and girls to make a picture by driving the car on paper. Comment that Joseph’s brothers had to travel a long way to find food.
  • Show the Teaching Picture and tell the Bible story. Remind the boys and girls that Joseph was kind and forgave his brothers for what they had done to him. Say the Weekly Verse and lead the children to repeat it with you.

Kindergarten—Pretend to Move

Bible Story: Joseph Loved His Brothers Genesis 37; 42:1-8,25-26; 43:1-2,15-17; 45:1-14; 46:28-34; 50:15-21

Weekly Verse: Be kind to one another. Ephesians 4:32

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, several small cardboard boxes, dress-up clothes, toy dishes and other kitchen items

  • Put the boxes in the dramatic play center. Display the Teaching Picture.
  • Encourage the kindergartners to pack the boxes and pretend they are moving to a new home. Comment that Joseph’s family moved to Egypt to be with Joseph.
  • Show the Teaching Picture as you tell the Bible story. Comment that Joseph’s brothers were afraid because the knew they had been mean to Joseph. But Joseph was kind and forgave his brothers.
