Preschool: In the Beginning: Session 2—God Made Animals (November 10)

1s & 2s—Dig for Animals

Bible Story: God Made Animals Genesis 1:20-25
Life Point: God made all of the animals.
Weekly Verse: The earth is full of the living things God made. Psalm 104:24

Materials: Teaching Picture 11, plastic container for sand, play sand, vinyl animal figures, large drop cloth

• Hide the animal figures in the container of sand. Place the container on the floor in the middle of a large drop cloth. Prop the teaching picture near the box.
• Invite 1s and 2s to dig in the box to find the animals.
• Talk about the Bible story as preschoolers search. Point to the different animals in the teaching picture. 
• Say the Weekly Bible Verse and encourage the preschoolers to repeat it with you.

3–Pre-K—Make Animal Masks

Materials: Teaching Picture 11, paper plates, scissors, paper scraps, glue sticks, markers

• Before the session, cut eye holes in the paper plates. Display the teaching picture with the art materials.
• Tell the Bible story and point to the teaching picture. Guide the children to name the different animals in the picture. Talk about the children’s favorite animals.
• Give each child a paper plate and encourage him to make a mask of his favorite animal. Say the Weekly Verse together and thank God for His creation.

Kindergarten—Build a Zoo

Bible Story: God Made Animals Genesis 1:20-25
Life Point: God made all of the animals.
Weekly Verse: The earth is full of the living things God made. Psalm 104:24

Materials: Teaching Picture 11, blocks, vinyl animal figures, index card, marker, tape

• Print the word Zoo onto the card with the marker. Tape the card to a block and stand it near the other blocks and animal figures. Display the teaching picture.
• Invite the boys and girls to build a zoo with the blocks. Talk about different kinds of enclosures for each kind of animal. Talk about what kind of work the zookeepers do to care for the animals.
• Show the teaching picture. Comment that God made every kind of animal. Say the Weekly Verse together.
