Bible Story: Jesus Called Matthew Matthew 9:9-13
Life Point: People can choose to show love to other people.
Weekly Verse: Love one another. 1 John 4:7

Materials: Teaching Picture 5; box; shredded paper; items used to help such as wooden spoon, bandage, glove, toy hammer (add other items as you wish)

• Hide the items in the paper inside the box. Place the box on the floor with the teaching picture nearby.
• Invite a preschooler to dig into the box and find an item. Talk about how that item is used to help others and show love to them. Say the Weekly Verse: “Love one another.” 
• Show the teaching picture and talk about the Bible story. Say that showed love to Matthew and his friends; we can choose to show love to other people.

3–Pre-K—Make Prints in Play Dough

Materials: Bible, play dough, small shoes with different soles, play dough tools (optional)

• Give each child a lump of play dough. Guide him to flatten his play dough and press the different shoes into the play dough.
• Comment that Jesus walked many places to tell people about God. Say that Jesus asked Matthew to follow Him; He showed love to Matthew and his friends by eating with them.
• Open the Bible and read 1 John 4:7. Say the verse with the children. Say people can choose to show love to other people.

Kindergarten—Trace Around Numbers

Materials: Teaching Picture 5, paper, markers

• On a sheet of paper, print the numeral 12 in the center. Make the numerals large enough to fill half the paper with a larger space between 1 and 2. Make a paper for each child.
• When kids are interested, show them how to use different colors of markers to trace around the numerals. 
• Tell the Bible story as kids are working. Comment that today’s story tells about Matthew, one of Jesus’ disciples; He called eleven more men to follow Him. 
• Show kids the teaching picture. Open the Bible and read 1 John 4:7. Say the verse together.
