Preschool: I Can Choose: Session 4—Daniel Chose to Obey (March 27)

1s & 2s— Glue Vegetables

Bible Story: Daniel Chose to Obey Daniel 1:1-20
Life Point: I can choose to love and obey God.
Weekly Verse: Do what is right and good. Deuteronomy 6:18

Materials: Teaching Picture 4, paper, glue sticks, pictures of vegetables from magazines (Seed catalogs are a great place to find pictures of vegetables.)

  • Display the Teaching Picture with the art materials.
  • Tell the Bible story as preschoolers glue pictures onto paper. Comment that Daniel and his friends wanted to love and obey God; they wanted to eat food that pleased God.
  • Look at the Teaching Picture with the preschoolers. Point out the different vegetables in the picture. Say the Weekly Verse.

3–Pre-K— Paint with Forks

Bible Story: Daniel Chose to Obey Daniel 1:1-20
Life Point: I can choose to love and obey God.
Weekly Verse: Do what is right and good. Deuteronomy 6:18

Materials: Teaching Picture 4, paper, plastic forks, shallow pans, painting smocks, washable paint (Use colors that relate to vegetables like orange, green, red, and yellow.)

  • Pour paint into each of the pans. Print the Weekly Verse on a paper for each child. Display the Teaching Picture nearby.
  • Show the children how to press the tines of a fork into the paint and then onto paper. Relate the colors they are using to types of vegetables.
  • Show the Teaching Picture and tell the Bible story. Remind the children that Daniel did what the Bible said because he loved God and wanted to obey Him. 
  • Say the Weekly Verse.

Kindergarten— Paint a Still Life

Bible Story: Daniel Chose to Obey Daniel 1:1-20
Life Point: I can choose to love and obey God.
Weekly Verse: Do what is right and good. Deuteronomy 6:18

Materials: Teaching Picture 4, plate, variety of vegetables of different colors, tempera cakes, cups of water, paintbrushes, painting smocks

  • Arrange the vegetables on the plate in an attractive way. Place the plate in the center of a table.
  • Invite kids to paint a picture of the vegetables. Talk about what kinds of vegetables kids like to eat. 
  • Tell the Bible story as kids continue to paint. Show the Teaching Picture and point to the vegetables in the picture.
  • Comment that Daniel wanted to love and obey God; he and his friends chose to eat food that pleased God. Say the Weekly Verse.
