Preschool: God’s Promises: Session 4—David Faced Goliath (November 23)

1s & 2s—Toss Beanbags

Bible Story: David Faced Goliath 1 Samuel 17:1-50
Life Point: God helps people.
Weekly Verse: God, You are great, and no one is like You. 2 Samuel 7:22

Materials: Bible, Teaching Picture 12, beanbags

  • Sit with the preschoolers and show them the teaching picture. Point to Goliath and David in the picture. Comment that God helped David beat Goliath; David used a rock with his sling.
  • Lay the teaching picture on the floor near a wall. Stand the children about two feet from the picture. Give each child a turn to toss the beanbag onto the picture. 
  • Open the Bible to 2 Samuel 7:22. Say the Weekly Verse with the children.

3–Pre-K—Make and Play with Puppets

Bible Story: David Faced Goliath 1 Samuel 17:1-50
Life Point: God helps people.
Weekly Verse: God, You are great, and no one is like You. 2 Samuel 7:22

Materials: Teaching Picture 12, extra-large craft sticks, thin-line markers

  • As children join the activity, show the teaching picture and tell the Bible story. Emphasize that God helped David defeat Goliath. Say that God helps people.
  • Encourage boys and girls to use the craft sticks to make puppets relating to the Bible story. Tell kids that they can make David, Goliath, King Saul, and other soldiers.
  • When children have finished their puppets, tell the Bible story again as children use their puppets to play out the story.
  • Open the Bible to 2 Samuel 7:22 and say the verse together.

Kindergarten—Play Out the Bible Story

Bible Story: David Faced Goliath 1 Samuel 17:1-50
Life Point: God helps people.
Weekly Verse: God, You are great, and no one is like You. 2 Samuel 7:22

Materials: Teaching Picture 12, wooden blocks, peg-type clothespins, thin-line markers

  • Display the teaching picture near the wooden blocks. Place the clothespins and markers in separate bins and lay them with the blocks.
  • Point to the teaching picture and talk about the Bible story as kids use the materials.
  • Suggest that kids make Bible story figures by drawing on the clothespins; then they can use the blocks to build the scene.
  • Continue to talk about the Bible story. Emphasize that God helped David defeat Goliath. Say the Weekly Verse with the kids.
