Preschool: God’s Promises: Session 3—God’s Promise to Jacob (November 16)

1s & 2s—Pack a Bag

Bible Story: God’s Promise to Jacob Genesis 28
Life Point: God is always with you.
Weekly Verse: I am with you everywhere you go. Genesis 28:15

Materials: Bible, small suitcase or backpack, pieces of children’s clothing

  • Place the Bible with the clothing and the suitcase.
  • Invite a preschooler to pack a bag. Ask the preschoolers about any trips they might have taken with their families.
  • Encourage him to include the Bible in the bag. Comment that the Bible helps us know that God is always with us.

3–Pre-K— Decorate Footprints

Bible Story: God’s Promise to Jacob Genesis 28
Life Point: God is always with you.
Weekly Verse: I am with you everywhere you go. Genesis 28:15

Materials: paper, markers, stickers, scissors, pencil

  • Help each child trace one or both of his feet onto a sheet of paper. (Trace around the shoes.) Help him cut out his footprints.
  • Invite the children to decorate their footprints with markers and stickers.
  • Talk about the Bible story as they work. Say that Jacob walked on a long trip to live with his uncle. Explain that God promised to always be with Jacob, and God is always with us.

Kindergarten—Pretend to Go on a Trip

Bible Story: God’s Promise to Jacob Genesis 28
Life Point: God is always with you.
Weekly Verse: I am with you everywhere you go. Genesis 28:15

Materials: Bible, 4-6 chairs, paper plate cut to resemble a steering wheel, small suitcase, dress-up clothes

  • Arrange the chairs to resemble a car. Lay the “steering wheel” in one chair. Place the other items together on a table.
  • Encourage kids to pack the suitcase and pretend to go on a car trip. They can decide on a special place they would like to visit.
  • Tell the Bible story as they play. Comment that Jacob went on a trip and God sent him a dream to tell him that God would always be with him.
  • Help each child open the Bible to Genesis 28:15 and say the verse together.
