1s & 2s— Walk Figures in Sand
Bible Story: Jesus Went to the Temple Luke 2:40-52
Life Point: Jesus grew as God had planned.
Weekly Verse: Jesus grew, becoming stronger and wiser. Luke 2:40
Materials: Teaching Picture 4, plastic people figures, large container of play sand, drop cloth
- Place the container of sand on a drop cloth on the floor. Lay the figures and the Teaching Picture nearby.
- Invite preschoolers to play with the figures in the sand. Tell them how Jesus and His family walked on the sandy road to church. Talk about how preschoolers traveled to church today.
- Show the Teaching Picture and point to Jesus. Say the Bible verse. Comment that Jesus grew, just as God had planned.
- Social Distancing Tip: Limit the number of children to two. Help each child was his hands before and after the activity. Disinfect the figures.
3–Pre-K— Draw on Map Pieces

Materials: Teaching Picture 4, old maps cut into 10-by-10-inch pieces, markers and highlighting markers
- Invite boys and girls to draw on the map pieces. Explain that maps help people know how to get to places.
- Show the Teaching Picture and talk about the Bible story. Comment that Jesus’ family traveled to the temple and Jesus talked to the teachers there.
- Say the Weekly Verse. Comment that Jesus grew as God had planned.
- Social Distancing Tip: Give each child his own set of highlighting markers, if possible. If not, disinfect after each child’s use. Limit participation to two children.
Kindergarten— Make Stained Glass Windows

Materials: Teaching Picture 4, clear contact plastic, tissue paper scraps, adhesive label with Weekly Verse printed on it
- Cut two identical pieces of the plastic for each child. Cut it into window shapes. Tape one piece of plastic to a table, sticky side up.
- Ask kids if they have ever seen a stained glass window in a church. Lead them to make a stained glass design with the tissue paper on the sticky plastic.
- Talk about the Bible story as kids work. Show the Teaching Picture and point to Jesus. Comment that this story took place when Jesus was a boy.
- When a child is finished with his design, help him place an identical piece of plastic over his design. Give him a verse label to put on the front of his window.
- Tell the kids that Jesus grew as God had planned.
Social Distancing Tip: Give each child her pieces of plastic, a stack of tissue paper, and a label. Teachers should wash their hands after helping each child.
