1s & 2s— Paint with Watercolors
Bible Story: The First Family Genesis 1:27-28; 2:8; 3:20; 4:1-2
Life Point: God has a plan for families.
Weekly Verse: God made man and woman. Genesis 1:27
Materials: Teaching Picture 5, paper, marker, watercolors, brushes, cups of water, painting smocks
- Print God has a plan for families. on a paper for each preschooler.
- Help preschoolers put on smocks before painting. Show a child how to wet her brush and rub it in the paint before brushing her paper.
- Read the words to the preschoolers as they paint. Talk about the children’s families as they paint. Tell preschoolers that God made their families and has plans for them.
- Point to the teaching picture and comment on the first family. Thank God for families.
3–Pre-K—Play a Movement Game
Bible Story: The First Family Genesis 1:27-28; 2:8; 3:20; 4:1-2

Weekly Verse: God made man and woman. Genesis 1:27
Materials: Teaching Picture 5, red and green construction paper, maker, masking tape
- Print YES and the green paper and NO on the red paper. Tape a line on the floor in a clear area of the room. Tape the signs on opposite sides of the line.
- Tell children to stand on the line. Point out the two signs and read them. Ask a question and direct the children to move the side with the sign that has their answer.
- Ask questions such as: Do you have a sister? Do you have a brother? Do you have a mother? After answering each question by moving to the correct sign, guide children to stand on the line.
- After a few turns show the teaching picture and tell the Bible story. Say that God made families and has a plan for them. Continue the game by calling out other family members. Thank God for making families.
Kindergarten— Make Family Flags
Bible Story: The First Family Genesis 1:27-28; 2:8; 3:20; 4:1-2
Life Point: God has a plan for families.
Weekly Verse: God made man and woman. Genesis 1:27
Materials: Bible, construction paper, markers, tape, yarn
- Cut construction paper into large triangles. Provide enough for each kindergartner to have one for each family member. Include a variety of colors.
- Guide a kindergartner to create a flag for each member of his family. On each flag he can print the family member’s name and draw pictures of things that family member likes to do or decorate the flag with designs.
- Talk about family members, how they are alike and different.
- Comment that God made families and has a plan for families. Say the main plan for families is to love God. Talk about the first family.
- Help a child attach each of his family members’ flags to a length of yarn. Suggest he display the flags at home to remind him that God made his family.
- Open the Bible to Genesis 4 and help a kindergartner find the names of the first family. Thank God for the kindergartner’s family.
