1s & 2s—Hammer Play Dough
Bible Story: Angels Told About Jesus’ Birth Matthew 1:18-24; Luke 1:26-56
Life Point: God planned for Jesus to be born.
Weekly Verse: Mary will have a son and you will name Him Jesus. Matthew 1:21
Materials: Teaching Picture 2, play dough, toy hammers
- Display the teaching picture near the play dough.
- Give each child a small lump of play dough and a toy hammer. Encourage her to flatten the play dough with the hammer.
- Talk about the Bible story as children play. Mention that Joseph was a carpenter and used a hammer. Say that God’s plan was for Mary and Joseph to care for Jesus.
- Pray briefly, thanking God for sending Jesus.
3–Pre-K—Draw to Music

Materials: Music, easel, paper, markers
- Select Christmas songs to play. Invite a child to draw at the easel as the music plays.
- Tell the Bible story. Comment that God planned for Jesus to be born; God chose Mary and Joseph to be Jesus’ parents.
- Offer to write the Weekly Verse on each child’s paper. Say the verse with the child.
Kindergarten—Play with Tools

Materials: wooden blocks, toy tools, measuring instruments, tool aprons, safety goggles, clipboards, paper, pencils
- Arrange the materials near the blocks.
- Invite the boys and girls to use the tools with the blocks. Some children may enjoy planning something on paper or writing down measurements.
- Tell the Bible story as the children play. Comment that Joseph was a carpenter and used tools to build furniture and houses; God’s plan was for Mary and Joseph to be Jesus’ earthly parents. Lead the kids to repeat the Weekly Verse with you.
- Pray, thanking God for sending Jesus.
