1s & 2s—Play a Musical Game
Bible Story: David Played for King Saul 1 Samuel 16:14-23
Life Point: God has plans for people.
Weekly Verse: God made us and we are His. Psalm 100:3
Materials: Music, two colors of construction paper, tape,
- Cut the construction paper into 4-inch squares. Securely tape the squares to the floor in a large circle. Place the music nearby.
- Invite the children to play a game on the squares. Call attention to the colors of the squares.
- Play a song and guide children to walk on the squares as the music plays. When the music stops, call out an action for anyone standing on a certain color. For example, say: “If you are standing on red, jump three times.”
- Continue to play music and call out actions. Guide children to repeat the Bible verse. Tell the children that God has a plan for each of them.
3–Pre-K— Make and Play with Puppets
Bible Story: David Faced Goliath 1 Samuel 17:1-50
Life Point: God has plans for people.
Weekly Verse: God made us and we are His. Psalm 100:3
Materials: Teaching Picture 10, extra large craft sticks, thin-line markers
- As children join the activity, show the Teaching Picture and tell the Bible story. Emphasize that God helped David defeat Goliath.
- Encourage boys and girls to use the craft sticks to make puppets relating to the Bible story. Tell the children that they can make David, Goliath, King Saul, and other soldiers.
- When children have finished their puppets, tell the Bible story again as children use their puppets to play out the story. Say that God has a plan for them, just as God had a plan for David.
Kindergarten— Play Out the Bible Story
Bible Story: David Faced Goliath 1 Samuel 17:1-50
Life Point: God has plans for people.
Weekly Verse: God made us and we are His. Psalm 100:3
Materials: Teaching Picture 10, wooden blocks, peg-type clothespins, thin-line markers
- Display the Teaching Picture near the wooden blocks. Place the clothespins and markers in separate bins and lay them with the blocks.
- Point to the Teaching Picture and talk about the Bible story as kids use the materials.
- Suggest that kids make Bible story figures by drawing on the clothespins; then they can use the blocks to build the scene.
- Continue to talk about the Bible story. Emphasize that God had a plan for David, and God has a plan for each of them. Say the Weekly Verse with the kids.
