Preschool: God Had a Plan: Session 5—Joseph Loved His Brothers (August 30)

1s & 2s—Roll a Ball with Friends

Bible Story: Joseph Loved His Brothers Genesis 37; 42:1-8,25-26; 43:1-2,15-17; 45:1-14; 46:28-34; 50:15-21
Life Point: God planned for people to show love.
Weekly Verse: Be kind and loving. Ephesians 4:32

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, large beach ball

  • Invite two preschoolers to sit on the floor and roll the ball to one another. Say the Weekly Verse as they roll the ball. Comment that the children are showing love by taking turns with the ball. 
  • Show the teaching picture and talk about the Bible story.
  • Tell the children that Joseph loved his brothers.

3–Pre-K—Paint Handprints

Bible Story: Joseph Loved His Brothers Genesis 37; 42:1-8,25-26; 43:1-2,15-17; 45:1-14; 46:28-34; 50:15-21
Life Point: God planned for people to show love.
Weekly Verse: Be kind and loving. Ephesians 4:32

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, heavy paper, paint, paintbrushes, smocks, markers

  • Guide a child to put on a smock and paint the palm of his hand and make handprints on his paper. 
  • Remind the children to wash their hands after they are finished making handprints.
  • As children work, tell the Bible story. Talk about ways Joseph loved his brothers. Show the teaching picture.
  • Talk about ways the children can use their hands to show love.

Kindergarten—Paint with Alphabet Sponges

Bible Story: Joseph Loved His Brothers Genesis 37; 42:1-8,25-26; 43:1-2,15-17; 45:1-14; 46:28-34; 50:15-21
Life Point: God planned for people to show love.
Weekly Verse: Be kind and loving. Ephesians 4:32

Materials: Teaching Picture 13, washable paint, shallow pans, paper towels, smocks, alphabet sponges (or cookie cutters) to spell the word LOVE, paper

  • Fold a paper towel in each pan and pour paint over it to form a stamping surface.
  • Give each kindergartner a piece of paper. Guide the children to stamp the word LOVE with the sponges.
  • Show the teaching picture and tell the Bible story as children work. Comment that God planned for people to show love.
  • Talk about ways that children can be loving. Say the Weekly Verse together.
