Preschool: God Can Do Anything: Session 2—God Helped Gideon (October 13)

1s & 2s—Sing and Play Instruments

Bible Story: God Helped Gideon Judges 7:1-22
Life Point: God is good.
Weekly Verse: I am God, and no one else is like Me. Isaiah 46:9

Materials: Bible, Teaching Picture 7, Music, simple preschool instruments (bells, rhythm sticks)

  • Stand the teaching picture next to the music source. Lay the Bible and instruments nearby.
  • Invite several preschoolers to play instruments with the music. Play a song about God and sing the words as the preschoolers play.
  • When the song finishes, open the Bible and briefly tell the Bible story. Show the teaching picture and point to Gideon. Say that God is good; He helped Gideon know what to do.
  • Continue to play music as preschoolers have fun with the instruments.

3–Pre-K—Build on a Word

Bible Story: God Helped Gideon Judges 7:1-22
Life Point: God is good.
Weekly Verse: I am God, and no one else is like Me. Isaiah 46:9

Materials: Teaching Picture 7, wooden blocks, tape (or large paper and marker)

  • Use tape to make the word GOOD in large letters on the floor near the blocks. (Or write the word on the paper and lay the paper on the floor.) Place the teaching picture nearby.
  • Point out the word to the children as they become interested in the blocks. Say the word and comment that God is good. Encourage them to build on the word.
  • Talk about the Bible story as they build. Say that God helped Gideon defeat the Midianites. Say the Weekly Verse together as the children build.

Kindergarten—Spell Bible Story Words

Bible Story: God Helped Gideon Judges 7:1-22
Life Point: God is good.
Weekly Verse: I am God, and no one else is like Me. Isaiah 46:9

Materials: Bible, magnet letters, index cards, marker, magnetic surface

  • Print the following words on separate index cards: Gideon, angel, trumpet, torch, pitcher. Display the cards with the magnetic surface and the letters. Place a blank index card in the Bible at Isaiah 46:9.
  • When a child shows interest in the letters, read the words and talk about how they are used in the Bible story. Encourage the kids to spell the words using the magnetic letters.
  • Comment that helped Gideon because God loved him. Say that God is good. 
  • Help each child open the Bible to the marked passage and say the Weekly Verse together: “I am God, and no one else is like Me. Isaiah 46:9”
