Bible Story: Escape to Egypt Matthew 2:13-23
Life Point: God’s plan cannot be stopped.
Weekly Verse: God’s plan will happen. Proverbs 19:21
Materials: Bible, Teaching Pictures 1-4, yarn, clothespins, 4-by-6-inch cards, markers, paper
- Print the four Bible verses and the following statements on cards:
An angel visited Mary. Mary heard that she would be the mother of God’s Son, Jesus. Joseph obeyed God. Joseph and Mary became a family. Jesus was born. The shepherds saw Baby Jesus in Bethlehem. God told Joseph to leave Bethlehem. Joseph took Mary and Jesus to Egypt. Mark the Bible with each verse card. - Attach the ends of the yarn to two chairs to make a clothesline. Lay pictures, cards, clothespins, and Bible near the clothesline.
- Help kindergartners spread out the cards and read the words. Guide them to place the cards in order according to when the events happened.
- Ask boys and girls to clip the cards to the yarn to create a time line that shows the order of what happened.
- Look at the teaching pictures. Ask kindergartners to identify people and tell what happened in each picture. Guide them to add the teaching pictures to their time line in the appropriate places.
- Help them find and read each Bible verse for this unit and add to the time line, too.
- Provide paper (or additional index cards) and markers for kids to draw pictures or print words about Jesus’ birth to add to the time line. Remind kids that God’s plan cannot be stopped.
