Preschool: Celebrate Jesus’ Birth: Session 2—Mary Visited Elizabeth (December 14)

1s & 2s—Play Bells

Bible Story: Mary Visited Luke 1:39-56
Life Point: People can praise God for Jesus.
Weekly Verse: Mary praised and thanked God. Luke 1:46

Materials: Teaching Picture 2, chenille stems, large jingle bells, Music

  • Thread a large bell onto a chenille stem. Twist together the ends of the chenille stem, making sure the sharp ends are concealed. Make several sets of bells.
  • Sit on the floor with the bells and the teaching picture near the music. As preschoolers join you, point to the teaching picture. As you tell the Bible story, mention that Mary was happy and sang a song to God. Say that people can praise God for Jesus.
  • Give each preschooler a bell and encourage him to shake it as you play a song.

3s–Pre-K—Build Roads and Drive Vehicles

Bible Story: Mary Visited Luke 1:39-56
Life Point: People can praise God for Jesus.
Weekly Verse: Mary praised and thanked God. Luke 1:46

Materials: wooden blocks, toy cars

  • Arrange the cars with the blocks. 
  • Invite boys and girls to build roads with the blocks and drive cars on the block roads.
  • Talk about the Bible story as children play. Comment that Mary might have traveled to visit Elizabeth by walking or riding in a wagon.
  • Say the Weekly Verse and the Life Point. Ask them to name ways they can praise God for Jesus.

Kindergarten—Paint to Music

Bible Story: Mary Visited Luke 1:39-56
Life Point: People can praise God for Jesus.
Weekly Verse: Mary praised and thanked God. Luke 1:46

Materials: paper, paint in cups, painting smocks, Music 

  • Say the Weekly Verse: “Mary praised and thanked God. Luke 1:46.”
  • Guide kids to put on smocks before painting. 
  • Tell kids to listen to the music and paint how the music makes them feel. Play different songs about Jesus as the kids paint.
  • Talk about the Bible story as kids paint. Comment that Mary was happy and sang a song to God; she praised God for Jesus.
