Preschool: A Powerful and Loving God: Session 4–The Tabernacle Was Built (January 26)

1s & 2s— Make a Cardboard Box Church

Bible Story: The Tabernacle Was Built Exodus 35:4-35; 36; 39:32-43
Life Point
: God wants people to love Him.
Weekly Verse: Praise God for He is good. Psalm 135:6

Materials: Bible, large appliance box, crayons, wallpaper samples, paper scraps, washable markers, glue sticks, small basket, box cutter (teacher’s use)

  • Remove any staples from the box. Cut a door on the front of the box; cut a few windows on the other sides of the box, if you choose.
  • Set the box in an open area of the room. Put crayons, markers, wallpaper samples, paper scraps, and glue sticks in the basket. (You could choose red, blue, and purple art materials to connect to the Bible story.) Set the basket and Bible beside the box.
  • Tell the preschoolers the box is a pretend church. Invite preschoolers to use the art materials to decorate the outside of the box church.
  • Talk about the Bible story. Tell the preschoolers that God wanted the people to have a special place to show love for Him.
  • Open the Bible and read the Weekly Verse.

3–Pre-K— Build the Tabernacle

Bible Story: The Tabernacle Was Built Exodus 35:4-35; 36; 39:32-43

Materials: Teaching Picture 9, blocks, fabric samples (red, blue, purple), picture of the tabernacle (Read to Me Bible for Kids or Illustrated Bible Dictionary for Kids)

  • Display the Teaching Picture and  tabernacle picture with the other materials.
  • Encourage the children to work together to build a the tabernacle from the blocks and fabric pieces. Remind them that they can look at the picture to see what the tabernacle looked like.
  • Talk about the Bible story as children work. Say the Weekly Verse. Point to the Teaching Picture and comment about what they see.

Kindergarten— Decorate a Banner

Bible Story: The Tabernacle Was Built Exodus 35:4-35; 36; 39:32-43
Life Point
: God tells people to worship Him.
Weekly Verse: Praise God for He is good. Psalm 135:6

Materials: Teaching Picture 9, long piece of bulletin board paper, markers, colorful dot stickers

  • Print the Weekly Verse in the center of the paper. Display the Teaching Picture with the art materials.
  • Help the kindergartners read the verse when they come to the center. Tell the Bible story. Comment that God wanted a special place for the people to worship Him.
  • Encourage kids to work together to decorate the banner. Kindergartners can decorate the letters with stickers or draw pictures or designs in the white space with markers.
