Use these statements to connect each session of Bible Studies for Life: Kids to Christ as you teach your children each week.
Unit 1, Session 1 Joshua Led the People
God planned for Joshua to lead His people into the promised land. Joshua was not perfect, but his faithfulness reminds us of Jesus, who is perfect. Jesus obeyed the Father and trusted His plan to save people from their sins.
Unit 1, Session 2 Daniel Obeyed God’s Law
Daniel chose to obey God no matter what, and God blessed Daniel and his friends. In an even greater way, Jesus always obeyed God. He came to earth and followed God’s plan to save sinners. Jesus never sinned, but He died the death we deserve. Jesus rose from the dead, and those who trust in Him receive God’s forgiveness and blessing.
Unit 1, Session 3 Jesus Visited Mary and Martha
God wanted both Mary and Martha to sit and learn from Jesus. Wisdom comes from God. He made the world and knows how it works best. The Bible says that Jesus is the wisdom of God. Jesus makes us wise and holy. He frees us from sin. (1 Cor. 1:24,30)
Unit 1, Session 4 A Rich Man Chose
The young ruler wanted Jesus to tell him that he was a good person who could get into heaven on his own. But that is not the case. Jesus wants us to love Him more than anything else in the world. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we can choose to follow Jesus for the rest of our lives, loving Him more than any other earthly possession.
Unit 1, Session 5 Paul Taught Peter
Peter was wrong to separate himself from the Gentiles. The gospel is for everyone, and we should show love to everyone. Paul reminded Peter that only Jesus can save people from sin. God accepts people who have faith in Jesus, not people who try to earn salvation on their own.
Unit 2, Session 1 Moses and the Burning Bush
God called Moses to rescue His people. The calling of Moses points to a greater calling and rescue—the call of Jesus to come to earth to save God’s people from sin. Moses and Jesus both obeyed God’s commands in order to carry out His plan of salvation. Moses delivered God’s people from physical captivity; Jesus delivered God’s people from captivity to sin.
Unit 2, Session 2 Gideon and the Midianites
The Israelites cried out to God because they knew they could not save themselves. Even Gideon was not enough to save them; God used Gideon to save His people, but God fought the battle for them. The people needed someone who was mighty to save. Jesus Christ came to save us from sin because we cannot save ourselves. Only God, through Christ, can save us.
Unit 2, Session 3 Three Men and a Fiery Furnace
God was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fire. Only He could rescue them. God rescues us too, through His Son, Jesus. Only Jesus can save us from our sin. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross provided the way for us to be rescued from sin and have eternal life.
Unit 2, Session 4 Elijah on Mount Carmel
The people who worshiped the false god Baal danced and cried and cut their bodies to show that they loved Baal. But the one true God is not like the false gods. He doesn’t require anything earthly of us. Instead, He showed His love for us by sending His Son, Jesus. Jesus bled and died to rescue us from sin when we trust in Him.
Unit 3, Session 1 Creation from Nothing
The Bible says that Jesus is Lord over all of creation. Everything was created by Him and for Him. Jesus has always existed, even at the creation of the Universe, and He holds everything together. (Colossians 1:16-17)
Unit 3, Session 2 The Garden of Eden
God created people in His own image. Adam was like God in some ways, but he was not a perfect representation of God. God sent His Son, Jesus, to show us exactly what God is like. (Colossians 1:15) Jesus is the perfect representation of God because He is God. (Hebrews 1:3)
Unit 3, Session 3 Sin and Consequences
Since Adam and Eve, everyone has sinned against God. Our sin separates us from God. God promised that one of Eve’s descendants would put an end to sin and death. God sent His Son, Jesus, to live as Adam didn’t—perfectly sinless. God the Son came into the world to rescue people from sin and bring them back to God.
Unit 3, Session 4 Saved from the Flood
God provided a rescue plan for one righteous man—Noah. The rescue was extended to Noah’s family. This story points to a greater rescue! Jesus, the only perfectly righteous person, came to take the punishment for sin. We trust His act of obedience and are saved from the punishment our sin deserves.
