Grades 1-3
Introductory Activity—Temple Size
Materials: tape measure
Take your children outside and form several groups. Give each group a tape measure. Tell your children the temple was 90 feet long and 30 feet wide. Instruct them to measure how big the temple was with their tape measure. Explain to your children that the temple was where God’s people worshiped Him in the Old Testament. Lead the kids to say the Weekly Verse together.

Game—How to Worship
Materials: paper, pencils
Form two teams and give each team a piece of paper and a pencil. Tell them you will give them two minutes to write down different ways people can worship God. At the end of two minutes, allow the two teams to share their lists; the team with the longest list is the winner! Say the Life Point with the kids. Lead your class in prayer and have everyone sing a simple worship song together.
Craft—Heart Puzzle
Materials: pink or red construction paper, scissors, tape
Give each child the supplies for the craft. Instruct them to draw a large heart on their paper and cut it out. Direct them to write the Weekly Verse on the heart. Next, direct them to cut their heart into five pieces to make a puzzle. Have them jumble their pieces and then put their heart back together. Explain to your children that worship is one way we can show our love for God. Encourage them to challenge their parents to put their hearts together when they go home.
Grades 4-6
Introductory Activity—Temple Timeline
Materials: Bibles, paper, pencils
Form several groups of children. Give each group a piece of paper, a pencil, and a Bible. Instruct them to read 1 Kings 6 and make a timeline of every event in the chapter. Allow the groups to share their timelines with the group. Have everyone say the Life Point, and tell your children that just as the people used to worship God in the Temple, we worship God at church today.

Game—Build the Temple
Materials: plastic interlocking bricks
Form several groups with your children. Give each group a set of plastic interlocking bricks. Read 1 Kings 6:2-3 and show your children a picture of the temple. Instruct the groups to build their version of the temple with their bricks. When everyone is finished, allow each group to show their temple to the class. Explain to your children that the people worshiped God inside of the Temple. Lead everyone in saying the Weekly Verse together.
Craft—Temple Art
Materials: picture of the temple, watercolors, paintbrushes, cups, water, paper
Hand out the supplies to the kids. Show them a picture of the temple and instruct them to paint their own version of it. Encourage them to be creative and use their imaginations. Afterward, allow children to show their pictures to the class. Remind children that even though they used to worship God in the temple, we worship God in the church and other places today. Have everyone say the Weekly Verse together.
