Game – Dance of Praise
Materials: music player
Before class, choose an upbeat Christian worship song to play in class. In class, form two groups with your children. Play the song for your children and inform them they will develop a dance to praise God, just like Mary praised God for becoming Jesus’ mother. Give the children time to develop their dances, and then allow each group to perform their dance of praise. Afterward, say the Life Point together.
Craft – Scripture Art
Materials: white card stock, markers, crayons
Give each child a piece of white card stock and some markers or crayons. Tell kids to write the Weekly Verse in the middle of their pages. Encourage them to be creative in how they write the words. Next, direct them to decorate the rest of the page, creating a unique art piece around their scripture. Allow volunteers to share their Scripture Art with the class. Encourage your children to place the scripture in a prominent place in their home.
Grades 4-6
Introductory Activity – How Do You Praise?
Materials: no materials needed
Explain to your children that in today’s lesson, they will see how Mary praised God. Ask: “What are ways people can praise God today?” Give volunteers the opportunity to answer the question and demonstrate their answers. Say the Life Point together.
Live It Out
Game – Song Maker
Materials: paper, pencils
Form your children into several equal-sized groups. Explain that Mary worshipped God because He blessed her by making her Jesus’ mother. Instruct the groups to create a worship song about Jesus. Afterward, allow every group to share their song with the entire class. Read aloud the Weekly Verse to your class and repeat it together.
Craft – Paper Sack People
Materials: paper lunch sacks, google eyes, markers, yarn, scissors, glue
Give every child two paper sacks, four google eyes, markers, yarn, scissors, and yarn. Instruct them to lay the paper sacks flat, with the bottom of the sack at the top. Inform them they are going to create two people, Mary and Elizabeth, with their paper sacks. Tell them to use the googly eyes and draw a face on the bottom of the sack. Instruct them to draw their bodies on the rest of the sack. Direct them to cut pieces of yarn to create hair for their paper sack people and glue them to the sacks. Direct them to write the Life Point on the backs of their paper sacks.
