Grades 1-3
Introductory Activity – Missing Verse
Materials: paper, pencils
Write the Weekly Verse on the board, but leave out five words. To the side of the verse, write the five words you left out of the verse. Give each of the kids a piece of paper and a pencil. Instruct them to write the Weekly Verse precisely as you have written it on the board. Next, tell them to place the words into the verse where they think they should go. Have several volunteers read the verse as they have written it. Afterward, write the words in the correct spots and say the Weekly Verse together.

Game – Shield Obstacle Course
Materials: toy shield, various items for obstacle course, paper
Before class, set up a simple obstacle course in your classroom involving chairs and tables. In class, explain to the children that they will go through an obstacle course while everyone else throws wadded-up paper at them. Choose one volunteer to represent God, who will hold a shield and walk with the other kids as they go through the course. The volunteer will block and defend the other kids from the paper wads. Afterward, write the Weekly Verse on the board and say it together.
Craft – Shield of Protection
Materials: white cardstock, markers, scissors
Give each child a piece of cardstock and ensure they have access to the other supplies. Direct them to draw and cut out a shield from their cardstock.
